We’ll have a cure for cancer within a year, scientists claim

A team of Israeli scientists claim they will likely develop a cure for cancer in the next year, The Jerusalem Post reported on Monday.

The new treatment is being developed by Accelerated Evolution Biotechnologies under the leadership of CEO Dr. Ilan Morad, according to the report.

“We believe we will offer in a year’s time a complete cure for cancer,” said Dan Aridor, chairman of the company’s board. “Our cancer cure will be effective from day one, will last a duration of a few weeks and will have no or minimal side-effects at a much lower cost than most other treatments on the market.”

The treatment, called MuTaTo, will use a combination of cancer-targeting peptides and a toxin that will specifically kill cancer cells.

The treatment will eventually be personalized and a specific cocktail of the drugs will be given to patients based on their type of cancer, Morad told the newspaper.

When something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Let's hope against hope it is true.

That will make the drug companies happy. A wonderful cure for humanity without the need for all their expensive drugs. I can see the drug company boards around the world all clapping and raising a glass to the Israelis.

Indeed. There will be huddling in the boardrooms thinking up ways they can secure the rights, accountants projecting the roi on a takeover or the losses should a bid fail.
I expect the numbers to be in the trillions coming the way of the Israelis if this cure works as they say.

worth following the link from the article:

    https://nypost.com/2019/01/29/cancer...within-a-year/
But Dr. Ben Neel, director of Perlmutter Cancer Center at NYU Langone Health, told The Post that “cancer is multiple diseases, and it is highly unlikely that this company has found a ‘cure’ for cancer any more than there is a single cure for infections.”
He said that “more likely, this claim is yet another in a long line of spurious, irresponsible and ultimately cruel false promises for cancer patients.”

I could see them buying and burying it, too many billions to be made from the cancer industry's current drugs and treatments.

I think it is not so simple. Large majority of cancer patients die quite quickly. So, treat them for a year or so after which they die, or cure them and sell them statins and Alzheimer meds for another 40 years?

Maybe IPO pump and dump or investor scam bait but definitely not the cure for cancer.

That had occurred to me. I read a more detailed article where they described the mechanisms and chemistry of the treatment. Sounded pretty convincing but I don't think any serious money will be put up until a whole bunch of patients have been cured and peer reviews published.

Good point. Animal testing for years, recurrence rates etc. But I daresay volunteers will be queuing up for miles.

A bit of a tangent...I see you come from a place where they don't smoke marijuana. What about medical marijuana?

Hadn't thought of that. Are you perchance a pharmaceutical executive Niddy?

It seems a lot of the scientific community are quite miffed with them, and think they're talking bollocks.

I must admit, there have been so many claims about cancer cures over the years it's hard to take one so grandiose seriously.

y much out my back door.

There's a very large medical marijuana facility pretty well out my back door. These products tend to be very expensive. A very small bottle of CBD will run you two hundred dollars. Hopefully this will come down in price.

It was a light hearted reference to a Conway Twitty song, Okie From Muskogee, where the first line is "We don't smoke marijuana in Muskogee...." (Not showing my age...The Fiji pop charts were years behind the US when I was a youth.)

It is one heck of a claim. Perhaps a PR expert would have advised their claim be for one type of cancer only, at this stage.

For what it's worth my Doctor, who I saw yesterday said it was highly unlikely.
He's the Registrar at the Allan Walker Cancer Center here in Darwin.
