Nobel Peace Prize - bookies' favourites

Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong-un hugMr Kim has stunned the world with his recent diplomacy efforts.

The Nobel Peace Prize is set to be announced tonight and one of the bookies' favourite pairs may come as a surprise — controversial North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

    Key points:

    • Odds say that Kim Jong-un and Moon Jae-in could win
    • Angela Merkel and Donald Trump are also considered front runners
    • The Pope has the same odds as Putin, according to bookies

A total of 331 individuals and organisations have been nominated this year, but with the official list of candidates a tightly-kept secret, who might win is anyone's bet.

Mr Kim and Mr Moon are the most surprising favourite, according to a range of betting websites with markets open for the prestigious prize.

As of Friday morning, Australian betting website SportsBet has the pair as its second-favourite at short odds, just behind German leader Angela Merkel.

According to the will of award namesake Alfred Nobel, the winner "shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses" in the preceding year.

Since it's unlikely Trump will win a 2nd term, he would be the first POTUS is how long not to get it?
Please, please Nobel panel, do not stroke his ego but blatantly thumb your nose at him.
Good to see they recognise SK and not Trump, as is the truth.

I was searching for an adjective to describe my response to your words. How VERY true and how very watered down the Nobel price has become, in the minds of many - me included.. Aung San Suu Kyi is a disgrace to the human race.

^ makes one wonder what special kind of moron would be 'surprised' by this year's favourites.

The peace prize has many times been given to someone partly based on what they have done so far and more partly for the peace work the Nobel committee expects them to do after getting the prize, ie intended as an encouragement.
Aung San Suu Kyi is obviously a disappointment but shit happens even in an enlightened circle of people.

If two Korean presidents gets the prize then it will be by little for what they have done and by much for what is hoped they do in the future.

    1,000 - 1 outsider wins ...

Nobel Peace Prize awarded for efforts to end sexual violence in war, Physician Denis Mukwege and former captive of the Islamic State group Nadia Murad have won the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war.

Dr Mukwege has spent large parts of his adult life helping the victims of sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo, treating thousands of patients.

    ---

Great cause, but pivotal to the fundamentals of the Nobel Peace Prize?

It should be renamed, its ironic that some of the nominees annually seem to have intimate connections with the instability in the first place. Kind of a bit like a self licking lolly.

If it had been the two Korean leaders, baldy orange cunto would have been sorely miffed and would have shamed himself once again by claiming some credit. I wish the two Koreans had been picked.
