Elon Musk - going private is one way to avoid the intense scrutiny of (the) public

    .
Elon Musk says he wants to take Tesla private at $US420 a share

Tesla's chief executive Elon Musk has announced, in a series of Twitter posts, that he wants to take the company private, resulting in a jump in the share price.

    Key points:
    • Elon Musk says Tesla will operate more "smoothly" as a private company
    • If Tesla was to be privatised, it would be the largest deal of its type
    • At $US420 per share, a deal would be worth $US72 billion overall

If that were to occur, it would be the largest deal of its type — moving the electric car maker out of the glare of Wall Street as it goes through a period of rapid growth under tight financial constraints.

"Am considering taking Tesla private at $[US]420. Funding secured," Mr Musk said on Twitter.

"Investor support is confirmed. Only reason why this is not certain is that it's contingent on a shareholder vote."
Asked whether he would continue to be CEO under such a scenario, Mr Musk replied there would be "no change".

    ---

Elon Musk ... doesn't play well with others.

Just a stunt to get the share price back up after his "the cave guy is a pedo" debacle.

If he wants to solve world problems he can buy a house in Thailand and come down to our local bar at "sundowner" time. We have it all mostly solved by 7 pm!

If it is a stunt then he's committed a criminal offense. Could be a desperate move to shake off the Chinese government who currently hold 5% of Tesla shares and may be looking to take over.

Tesla's stocks have wiped out all of their gains from earlier this week — in just two days.
It was triggered by reports in the last couple of days that the US corporate regulator has been scrutinising the company.

The electric carmaker's shares fell almost 5 per cent overnight, making it one of the worst performing stocks on Wall Street's Nasdaq index.
Investors have begun to doubt whether Tesla's boss Elon Musk can indeed take the company private, an idea which he announced on Twitter.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been looking into Tesla's public statements, according to a Bloomberg report on
Thursday (local time), citing two unnamed people familiar with the matter.

In particular, it has been looking into Tesla's public statements on sales targets and production numbers.

Could be, but he's a smart guy who thinks ahead. Maybe "the cave guy is a pedo" was intentional to pull down shares so he could buy at a lower rate.
You don't just wake up one morning and announce you're considering going private. He would have been mulling this for months.

I doubt they want to take over. They just want to nick the tech so they can start churning out knock-offs.

Tesla fans in Australia losing faith after Elon Musk's tweets and delays to Model 3 car

Amid Elon Musk's social media antics, it's easy to forget he has electric cars to deliver — but there are Australians who
    have not forgotten.
From 2016, locals could pay $1,500 to save a spot in the queue for his Model 3, which has been sold as Tesla's
    mass-market sedan.
Waiting was expected. There have been production delays, and a Tesla spokesperson said right-hand drive vehicle
manufacture will begin mid next year, with deliveries to expected begin shortly after that.

Yet for some, the magic is wearing thin.
Ashley Fanning and her partner signed up for a Model 3 in 2016 in Melbourne, but gave it up in July.
They'd bought into a vision — contributing to the progress of electric vehicles — but what they saw as scant communication
from the company about local timing and pricing left them cold.
The car starts at US$35,000, but the final Australian price is unclear.
"I have no idea if it's ever going to show up, and if I'm going to be able to afford it," she said.

Mr Musk's recent Twitter activity — going into combat against journalists, armchair critics and rescue divers — made her decision easier.
"I'm not at all loyal to the brand like I felt I was when I subscribed," she said.

"You see him call that guy a 'pedo'," she said, referring to a July incident, in which Mr Musk apologised after calling a UK diver
involved in the Thai cave rescue a "pedo" or paedophile.

"What are you doing — where's my car?"

They're still calling the guy a diver which is more heroic-sounding than "the guy with a map", thus villifying Musk more.

    Well, that's a...theory.

And the account that he'll probably be sticking to in court.

Another possibility is hubris. He's an ultra-successful guy living in the US and a white South African, after all.

None of those factors encourage humility.

Tesla sheds $US5.4 billion after Elon Musk admits job stress getting to him

Shares of Electric car maker Tesla have tumbled about 9 per cent after CEO Elon Musk conceded in a newspaper interview that job stress may be getting the best of him.
Tesla shares closed at $US305.50 ($417.56) on Friday (local time), their lowest level since August 1, as analysts and business professors questioned whether the company's board should grant Mr Musk leave or even replace him with a more seasoned CEO.

The decline lopped $US5.4 billion off Tesla's market value.
In an interview with the New York Times Mr Musk admitted the past year had been the most "difficult and painful" of his career.
The newspaper reported that during an hour-long telephone interview Mr Musk alternated between laughter and tears, acknowledging he was working up to 120 hours a week and sometimes took Ambien to get to sleep.

"It's kind of bizarre," said Charles Elson, director of the corporate governance centre at the University of Delaware.
    "It's a drama we shouldn't be watching."
Still, Mr Musk said in the interview he had no plans to give up his dual role as Tesla's chairman and CEO.

"If you have anyone who can do a better job, please let me know. They can have the job. Is there someone who can do the job better? They can have the reins right now," he said.

unfortunately musk seems to be in the midst of a very public nervous breakdown.

hopefully it's not too severe and he will soon be back in top form.

It does seem like that, and even the most intelligent people can have a breakdown. But don't discount a deliberate strategy. He's a very smart chap.

Elon Musk smoked a combined marijuana-tobacco joint on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

Tesla stock falls as Elon Musk smokes marijuana during Joe Rogan Experience podcast

Shares of electric car maker Tesla have fallen more than 6 per cent after company CEO Elon Musk smoked marijuana during a podcast interview and the company's accounting chief left after a month on the job.
Tesla closed on Friday (local time) at US$263.24 a share after the recording of Mr Musk smoking a combined marijuana-tobacco joint on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast was aired online.

Shortly after smoking the joint — which the host noted was legal in California — Mr Musk looked at his phone and laughed, saying he was getting texts from friends asking why he was smoking weed during the interview.

"I'm not a regular smoker of weed," Mr Musk said.
