Foreign Ministry confirms no Thais affected by Osaka earthquake

No Thais have been affected by an earthquake that struck Osaka of Japan during the morning rush hour this morning, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement.

At least three people were killed in a major earthquake that hit a suburban area between Osaka and Kyoto in Japan this morning according to public broadcaster NHK which reported that at least 234 people were injured.

According to a report from the Thai Consulate in Osaka, there have been no reports of Thais affected by the quake which lasted about 20 seconds.

The earthquake, which Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported at magnitude 6.1, struck the area during the morning rush hour at 7.58 am, causing a disruption to traffic. But NHK quoted officials as saying that there were no immediate dangers of tsunami waves.

It reported that the three who died were two elderly men and a girl and said authorities are still getting to grips with the extent of injuries and reported that nearly 700 people have fled to evacuation centers set up across Osaka. 100,000 homes are without gas and water outages are being reported in the northern half of Osaka. Some public schools have been closed with parents asked to pick their children.

there have been no reports of Thais affected by the quake which lasted about 20 seconds.

I heard reports of Noi getting so scared she squirted in her pants and Lek who drank a bottle of whisky and attempted to drive his car from Tokyo to Bangkok.

I'm sure other Thais were affected.
