Starbucks to close 8,000 US stores 4 a day ... Black Lives Matter

Black Lives Matter activist yells at a Starbucks employee

Starbucks to close 8,000 US stores for racial-bias training following 'reprehensible' arrests of black men

Starbucks will close 8,000 company-owned US cafes for the afternoon on May 29 to train nearly 175,000 workers on
    how to prevent racial discrimination.

    Key points:

    • Video of arrests of two black men in a Starbucks store went viral
    • Starbucks CEO said arrests were "reprehensible"
    • Protesters have been calling for a boycott of the coffee chain

The announcement from the world's biggest coffee company comes as it tries to cool tensions after
the arrest of two black men at one of its Philadelphia cafes last week sparked accusations of racial profiling at the chain.

Protesters have called for a boycott of the company, in what has become the biggest test yet for chief executive Kevin Johnson,
who took the helm about a year ago.

    Here

    ---

    An over reaction? Who knows.

Starbucks share price actually rose overnight, so the training is seen as a positive by the Market.

“Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago”

    So all froth

If you were deeply cynical could consider the whole issue although genuine to begin has been spun into a stunt.

So a Starbucks employee arrested black customers? JFC! Sounds like its the po-po that needs the sensitivity training.

I don't buy that overpriced shite so I really wouldn't care if they shut em down permanently.

    Not quite.

Two black dudes went into the Starbucks in question, sat down and didn't order because they were waiting on a third person, for some reason staff/manager (probably because they were being black in a public place) called the police who arrived, handcuffed them (they were being black in a public place after all) and lead them out.

Meanwhile, in other news, people in the US will tell you racism's no longer an issue and/or Obama spent eight years race-baiting.

Starbucks are offering 10,000,000 bucks to someone who can come up with a new coffee cup.

    I'm on the job!

Just wondering, now, if I have to be black to sit in McDonalds without purchasing anything?

Good to see the Starbucks CEO on CNN this morning. He managed to shed a tear and say "I'm quite emotional".

    All utterly believable of course.

How do other cafes think about people taking up seats and using the facilities and not ordering anything?
Were they politely asked to leave before the cops were called?
If I had a cafe and people were taking up seats without ordering anything I'd ask them to leave as well. And what would I do if they didn't leave?
All this talk about racism is nonsense.
Just a couple of assholes taking advantage of free wifi, toilets and aircon.

How many white guys have had the cops called on them and lead out of a shop in handcuffs because they were waiting for their mate to arrive before they ordered?

Definitely not the one who turned up to meet them as they were being arrested.

The problem with these pretentious places is, you can stand in the queue at the counter, get to the front of the queue, then wait two hours while the trainee makes you something complicated like a small black coffee.
In the meantime, demand has opened a barbers shop next door for those in the queue behind you, to get a shave and a haircut while you wait for your overpriced small black coffee.

Sneering baristas will end up wearing that mocha, frappe, double espresso with sprinkles. The annoying, slovenly c u n t s.

Just buy a Dolce Gusto or Nespresso and make your own for a fraction of the price.

They've done a good job of keeping the mgr out of sight so hard to say what his side of it all is.

But I'm not sure if a couple of white guys came in asked to use the restroom without buying anything and then lingered around wouldn't be asked to leave. Not like they were paying cudtomers.

Apparently, the Manager, being either a he or she, a flat white, short black or cappuccino, Muslim or Christian, Man U or Liverpool supporter,
Democrat or Republican has left Starbucks.

Further details unknown at this stage.

... and does it really matter?

The Starbucks manager, probably following company protocol asked two, non-purchasing customers to 'move on' and, when they
declined to leave the Premises, phoned the Police to intervene.

    The Police arrested the men.

But the Manager has paid the price.

    My personal opinion ...

Dunno. If they'd explained they were waiting for someone else before ordering they'd probably not be asked to leave. Not the point though.

You can say this isn't about race but it most assuredly is.

It is now. Maybe just poor customer relations at the start.
