    UK Government apologises for ...

Windrush Square in the Brixton district of London was named after the ship Empire Windrush, which brought the first big group of postwar
Caribbean immigrants to Britain in 1948.

UK Government apologises for 'terrible' treatment of Caribbean immigrants after deportation threats

The British Government has apologised for its "appalling" treatment of some immigrants from the Caribbean, as reports of people being
threatened with deportation overshadowed a Commonwealth leaders' meeting.

Britain wants to use this week's summit of the alliance of the UK and its former colonies to help Britain bolster trade and diplomatic
ties around the world after it leaves the European Union.

But anger over what many see as the UK's shabby treatment of residents of Caribbean origin eclipsed trade topics.

Members of the "Windrush generation" — named after the ship Empire Windrush, which brought the first big group of postwar
Caribbean immigrants to Britain in 1948 — came from what were then British colonies or newly independent states.

Those who arrived before 1971 had an automatic right to settle in the UK.

    UK getting tougher on immigration

The British Government has taken an increasingly tough line on immigration, which has increased dramatically over the
last 10 or 15 years, largely as a result of people moving to the UK from other EU countries.

A desire to control immigration was a major factor for many voters who supported the 2016 referendum for Britain to
    leave the EU.

Most of the blame for poor, or non existent record keeping is being laid at the feet of Mrs May who was Home Secretary at the time the immigration barrel was being scoured for easy deportation targets.

They should keep apologising, good for the civilised spirit.

Might be an idea for savages to also start apologising for what their dads and grandads did.

Then we can agree ours was worse and can be partially eased only with large amounts of money, and we all live happily ever after.

A hot potato on the news here at the moment, poor fookers who've worked here and had families for 50+ years being locked up in detention centres.
People not being allowed back in after holidays abroad.
Pretty messed up for the thousands involved.

No they fucking haven't. They let all sorts of east euro dross into this country, rapists, fraudsters, criminals on the run arrive and exercise the human rights act, thus making the govt have an obligation to keep them, accomadate and give them free money.

Then they get the stowaways via Calais, th y arrive and are immedietly under obligation of immigration to house, feed and pay them. They get treated with kid gloves and within a few months bring their families over and get housing. Most have no intention of doing a days work

Then there's the thousands of Syrians coming in, and looks like thousands more due to the current bombing campaign.

In the 60s they recruited directly from the West Indies for staff to work on London Transport, nursing and British Rail to name a few. Most jumped at the chance of a better life and a decent job. When I was a kid, half the bus & tube staff/drivers, ticket collectors and conductors were from Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad, St. Lucia or Antigua.
