First Blue blood moon since 1866 today!

People from Moscow, via Sydney, to Washington DC will be given a rare celestial treat on Wednesday as three lunar phenomena coincide. Weather permitting, of course.

A blue moon (a second full moon in a calendar month), a super moon (when the moon is unusually close to Earth, making it bigger and brighter) and a blood moon (a moment during an eclipse when the moon appears red) will all coincide for the first time since 1866.

    When to see it
If you live in the US, you will be able to see the eclipse – and the celestial trifecta – on Wednesday morning, just before the moon sets.

For those on the US east coast, the eclipse will start just before sunrise at 5.51am US ET, when the super blue moon will begin turning red. It will happen at 4.51am CT and those on the west coast can see it at 2.51am.

Watching it from our garden at the moment. The full moon is gradually being eaten by something not 100% dark and with a slightly ragged edge. About half gone now. Locals are setting of fireworks all around.

A little less shaky. I went and got a pair of socks to rest the camera on.

    Ferk...that's not less shaky. Sorry.

Ferk...now the mrs has gone to bed and she's the camera expert. I started pressing buttons and switching dials, now I can't get the damn thing to focus.
She had it all set up for me to point and shoot.
    Bugger.
Got a nice steady resting place too.

That’s pretty good. I tried with the IPAD camera but too much contrast.

    Drizzled down here from sundown.

I hope the spectacle lived up to the hype.

Looked cool from the images thus far.

Perth in Western Australia probably was a good spot to watch it from.

Much of the populated areas of Australia was shrouded in cloud.

It would have been quite good. Mrs set the camera up and told me I can't take the photo just holding the camera because the exposure was too long.
So I propped it on a neighbour's clothes rack, but it was a bit rickety and moved when I pressed the button.

^ Did you take that Tizme? It's superb. The photo, I mean. Very artistic.
    The shadow is superb too.
