Homelessness increasing in the UK, but no mention of immigration by left-wing media

BBC, Guardian, Independent reporting on increasing homelessness, mentioning every other cause apart from immigration, whilst simultaneously interviewing recent immigrants who are now homeless, without a shred of irony!

Is it that the issue is now raised in profile because more homeless are immigrants and the left-wing media only pay attention to news when immigrants the victims, rather than when natives are, or is it just that 20 years of historically unprecedented hockey-stick-graph mass immigration has mysteriously coincided with increased pressure on housing, schools, and the NHS, and the BBC and fellow left-wing press are refusing to report on it?

Homelessness rise 'likely to have been driven by welfare reforms'

    • 13 September 2017

Media captionOdette spent two years sleeping rough in London The number of homeless families in the UK has risen by more than 60% and is "likely to have been driven" by the government's welfare reforms, the public spending watchdog has said.
Homelessness of all kinds has increased "significantly" over the last six years, said the National Audit Office.
It accused the government of having a "light touch approach" to tackling the problem.
The government said it was investing £550m by 2020 to address the issue.
There has been a 60% rise in households living in temporary accommodation - which includes 120,540 children - since 2010/11, the NAO said.

A snapshot overnight count last autumn found there were 4,134 rough sleepers - an increase of 134% since the Conservatives came into government, it added.
    Four-year freeze

A report by the watchdog found rents in England have risen at the same time as households have seen a cut to some benefits.
Homelessness cost more than £1bn a year to deal with, it said.
Reforms to the local housing allowance are "likely to have contributed" to making it more expensive for claimants to rent privately and "are an element of the increase in homelessness," the report added.

Welfare reforms announced by the government in 2015 included a four-year freeze to housing benefit - which was implemented in April 2016.

Auditor General Sir Amyas Morse said the Department for Work and Pensions had failed to evaluate the impact of the benefit changes on homelessness.
"It is difficult to understand why the department persisted with its light touch approach in the face of such a visibly growing problem.
"Its recent performance in reducing homelessness therefore cannot be considered value for money."
    'National scandal'

The ending of private sector tenancies - rather than a change in personal circumstances - has become the main cause of homelessness in England, with numbers tripling since 2010/11, said the NAO.

Its analysis found private sector rents in England have gone up by three times as much as wages since 2010 - apart from in the north and East Midlands.

While in London, costs have risen by 24% - eight times the average wage increase.
Image caption Reforms to the local housing allowance are "likely to have contributed" to homelessness, says the NAO Councils spent £1.1bn on homelessness in 2015/16 - with £845m going to pay for temporary accommodation, the NAO said.
It found that local authorities in London have been buying properties outside the capital to house families.
Labour MP Meg Hillier, who chairs the Public Accounts Committee, said: "It is a national scandal that more and more people are made homeless every year.
"This reports illustrates the very real human cost of the government's failure to ensure people have access to affordable housing."

The Local Government Association - which represents councils - said local authorities were having to house "the equivalent of an extra secondary school's worth of homeless children in temporary accommodation every month."

"The net cost to councils of doing this has tripled in the last three years, as they plug the gap between rising rents and frozen housing benefit."
It called on the government to support councils by allowing them to invest in building affordable homes and "provide the support and resources they need to help prevent people becoming homeless in the first place".
    'Safety net'

Homelessness charity Shelter said it wants the government to end the freeze on housing benefit and commit to building affordable homes.
The government said tackling homelessness was a "complex issue" but it was determined to help the most vulnerable in society.
It said it was implementing the Homelessness Reduction Act which "means more people get the help they need earlier to prevent them from becoming homeless in the first place".

A spokesman added: "Our welfare reforms restore fairness to the system with a strong safety net in place to support the most vulnerable, including £24bn through the housing benefit.

"There's more to do to make sure people always have a roof over their head and ministers will set out further plans shortly, including delivering on our commitment to eliminate rough sleeping entirely."

Homelessness is not caused by immigration. There are many many reasons behind it, but most certainly in the UK the biggest factor was the privatisation of council houses by the Tory filth. An asset grab of monumental levels with many people "buying their houses" and either couldn't afford the mortgage and lost the house, or sold it and went back to renting. The result has been the wholesale destruction of social housing, with the rentier class, always tory filth, pocketing the rent that once was used to build new houses, as well as driving up rents as well. There are not enough houses, the ones that are there are far too expensive, and no return comes to the councils for them to build more houses.

You then have the EU cheap labour (sold as freedom of movement) which fills the rented houses with minimum wage workers meaning less opportunities for low income brits to rent, and also soaking up the blue collar jobs they used to do, but in this day and age, can not afford to do because unlike the Roms and Poles who live 20 to a house, the brits have a family to maintain and 7.50 an hour doesn't cut it. All signed up by the RIGHT WING tory filth and their pet Tory Blair as well.

So before you start chucking this at immigrants and "lefites", the biggist issue in the UK was the Tory Filth, as usual, proving they are the enemy within.

Get your facts straight pal - the Toy Filth are the enemy, and the cause of most of the bad things in the UK. They scoff and laugh at homeless military people, using them as dogs of imperialist wars for the benefit of their party donors and their bosses, and when they are done, they chuck them in the bin. Torys. Right Wingers. THEY ARE THE problem. They are the ENEMY within this country, NOT Immigrants.

The increase in the number of properties has failed to keep pace with the increase in population. Simple as that.

Some of the strain is taken up by the market, forcing up rents so more tenants now share rooms. It was Labour sponsored legislation that criminalises landlords for renting to more than three non related individuals without an HMO licence, leaving the field wide open for criminal gangs (mostly pakis and Eastern Europeans) to run the workhouse style dormitories. The same gangs who operated in Grenfell Tower.....

I don't know where to begin here.

Every time I say something similar in the US politics threads you jump in and start spouting a bunch of nonsense about the left right divide and how both parties are the same. What a massive hypocrite you really are to post something like this after all the nonsense you spout over in the US politics threads. Utterly laughable double standard. The hypocrisy is mind blowing.

Life is often paradoxical and sometimes contradictory, and it seems Pseudolus' thinking may be too. But what he has said is quite sound.

We have the equivalent of Tories here in Oz, and they are scum too, doing just the same things as he described happen in England.

So why are there so many properties vacant then? 200,000 at the last count in England alone. Vacant, not summer houses etc. Because the prices are artificially manipulated to be as high as possible for the rentier class.

A lot of vacant properties are council houses aswell, streets and streets of them in some cities that were marked for development that never happened. Stoke was selling them off at £1 a pop but had some strict conditions like must have £30k or something to invest in doing them up and have to live in them your self for 10 years. Some criteria like that anyway just going from memory.

Nope - Exercising treaty rights does not count as immigration in the EU. Like a person moving from Texas to Maine.

Funny that - I don't hate anyone really. It is always the bigots, fascist supporters, racist oiks like you and seekingass who accuse people of being Hate FIlled, but are inafact that themselves.

    Let's see. You hate;

    Women
    Black
    Asians
    Pakis and Indians.
    Thais
    Thai men
    All Chinese people.
All educated white people (because you are jealous).
    People who have empathy
People who try to help others.

You hate everything and everyone, but mostly, at the end of the day, you hate yourself. Hardly surprising, everyone else does.

watched a doco today about all the property in London being bought up, not by immigrants but by foreigners who have no intention of living there. Mostly chinks it seems, new blocks of flats were being snapped up off plan 85% foreigners who will rent out or keep empty then sell when the price goes up enough. At least the Thai got one thing right when it comes to property buying by outsiders. Chinks from HK thought the prices were cheap and they are considering what you get for 500k over there, where they have a 23% tax on foreign buyers.
Of course all the immigrants flooding in at 200k and more a year don't exactly help, look at that council housing tower block that burned down last year, the media had a job to find any genuine Londoners living in the place, even 3 Thai families there.
