The band rose to fame in the 1990s and sold more than 40 million records worldwide, with hits including Zombie, Linger and Dreams.

The lead singer of Irish rock band The Cranberries has died suddenly aged 46 in London.

Dolores O'Riordan had been in the city for a recording session, according to a statement by her publicist.

Why would you think that? Most of her life was shit, most likely she committed suicide.

Not as strange as a Pogues song about heroin addiction and alcoholism being played over and over again in every shopping centre in the world every Christmas as a celebration of the life of the baby Jesus.

No. Not quite so simple. A victim of rape as a child and severe depression throughout her life, it is more probable that she's topped herself.

She perhaps decided not to let it linger any longer.

    RIP.

Very sad to hear this news. I really liked her music....
Also liked to sing a few of her songs.

Some of her music you can hear her pain. ^

That pain has reverberated through those Filipinos and that Zombie song in bars for too long

    ^Ha..
I also sing zombie and linger both in Thailand and other bands..haha. They are great songs, especially Zombie. Damn that song gives me chills.

I was reading other news and the cause of death hasn't been confirmed yet.

Another great artist gone... so sad.

    Great article here.

Apart from the annoyingly over-played "Zombie", I liked the Cranberries and Delores' voice. Damn shame she's gone so young. RIP.

My money would have been on sleeping pills, although why wouldnt they say died in her sleep instead of died suddenly? Hmmm

“I am pretty good but sometimes I hit the bottle,” she said. “Everything is way worse the next morning. I chain smoke when I drink. I have a bad day when I have bad memories and I can’t control them and I hit the bottle. I kind of binge drink. That is kind of my biggest flaw at the moment.”

In another interview she revealed how she couldn’t have sleeping tablets around “because if I have a few drinks I’ll take them”.

She added: “On tour, it was just so easy to say: ‘I can’t sleep, I’ve had a couple of drinks, maybe I’ll take one.’ Then you take another. Then you don’t wake up. That can happen. I am careful now.”

I think I read somewhere it was an unexplainable death at the moment.
It could have been sleeping pills as she was in a lot of physical pain with back problems.

Too young to die.. what a crying shame. I've been listening to her music all day.

'Dream to me' - decent song until she ruined it by wailing

Let's stop pretending she was great just because she's dead. Her voice was shit.

I never listened to any of her stuff, but I think my daughter was a fan a few years ago.

Remember that sudden death automatically makes any artist ten times more talented. It was the making of that horrible junky Amy Whinehouse and rentboy lookalike Lil Peep. Even Morrissey and Bono would still be respected today if they'd had the good grace to die at 27.

That's sad, 46 is pretty young to die whatever the cause.

Coincidentally enough I was only just listening to 'Linger' this morning also.

Immediately marking what age range you're in . Live fast, die in your 80s after acquiring equity and a sound financial foundation for your children, leave an embalmed and heavily made-up corpse. Rock and Roll!

Proper rock stars used to die "choking on their own vomit". That would have been a shame in Bono's case.. That he didn't die choking on mine.

Kurt Cobain has a great bandwagon too. His music drove many to suicide even before he shot himself

Unless you found him unconcious and gave him the kiss of life

My sound financial foundation is dependent on my living into my 90's. Or sponging off my kids.
