Soldiers deployed across the Zimbabwe capital Harare and seized the state broadcaster on Wednesday after 93-year-old President Robert Mugabe's ruling ZANU-PF party accused the head of the military of treason, prompting frenzied speculation of a coup.
Just 24 hours after military chief General Constantino Chiwenga threatened to intervene to end a purge of his allies in Mugabe's ZANU-PF, a Reuters reporter saw armored personnel carriers on main roads around the capital.
Aggressive soldiers told passing cars to keep moving through the darkness. "Don't try anything funny. Just go," one barked at Reuters on Harare Drive.

Two hours later, soldiers overran the headquarters of the ZBC, Zimbabwe's state broadcaster and a principal Mugabe mouthpiece, and ordered staff to leave. Several ZBC workers were
manhandled, two members of staff and a human rights activist said.
Shortly afterwards, three explosions rocked the center of the southern African nation's capital, Reuters witnesses said.

It seems now more likely than ever it might be over. Both the police and the Army have not been paid and are pissed off he fired their friend the VP and is putting his wife in . Its time I think and hope.

Unfortunately probably just a case of one group of rich and powerful pissed off at the other group of rich and powerful.

GOOD MORNING/AFTERNOON
Fellow Zimbabweans, following the address we made on 13 November 2017 which we believe our main broadcaster, ZBC and The Herald were directed not to publicise, the situation in our country has moved to another level.
Firstly, we wish to assure the nation that His Excellency, The President, of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Head of State and Government and Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Cde R.G Mugabe and his family are safe and sound and their security is guaranteed. We are only targeting criminals around him who are committing crimes that are causing social and economic suffering in the country in order to bring them to justice.
As soon as we have accomplished our mission we expect that the situation will return to normalcy.
To the civil servants: As you are aware, there is a plan by the same individuals to influence the current purging taking place in Zanu PF to the Civil service. We are against that act of injustice and we intend to protect everyone of you against it.
To the judiciary, the measures underway are intended to ensure that, as an independent arm of the state, you are able to exercise your independent authority without fear of being obstructed as has been the case with this group of individuals.
To our Members of Parliament: Your legislative role is of paramount importance for peace and stability in this country and it is our desire that a dispensation is created that allows you to serve your respective political constituencies according to democratic tenets.
To the generality of the people of Zimbabwe: We urge you to remain calm and limit unnecessary movement. However, we encourage those who are employed and those with essential business in the city to continue their normal activities as usual. Our wish is that you enjoy your rights and freedoms and that we return our country to a dispensation that allows for investment, development and prosperity that we all fought for and for which many of our citizens paid the supreme sacrifice.
To political Parties; We urge you to discourage your members from engaging in violent behaviour.
To the youth: We call upon you to realise that the future of this country is yours. Do not be enticed with dirty coins of silver, be disciplined and remain committed to the ethos and values of this great nation.
To all Churches and religious organisations in Zimbabwe: We call upon you and your congregations to pray for our country and preach the gospel of love, peace, unity and development.
To both our people and the world beyond our borders: We wish to make it abundantly clear that this is not a military takeover of Government. What the Zimbabwe Defence Forces is doing is to pacify a degenerating political, social and economic situation in our country which if not addressed may result in violent conflict.
We call upon all the war veterans to play a positive role in ensuring peace, stability and unity in the country.
To members of the Defence Forces: All leave is cancelled and you are all to return to your barracks with immediate effect.
To our respected Traditional leaders: You are the custodians of our culture, customs, traditions and heritage and we request you to provide leadership and direction to your communities for the sake of unity and development in our country.
To the other Security Services: We urge you to cooperate for the good of our country. Let it be clear that we intend to address the human security threats in our country. Therefore any provocation will be met with an appropriate response.
To the media; we urge you report fairly and responsibly.

ROBERT MUGABE has been removed from power and placed under house arrest after the Zimbabwe army seized control of Harare in what they described as a “bloodless transition”. But is the President alive and safe?

Robert Mugabe has been removed from power. The 93-year-old’s whereabouts are unknown after the military said “corrupt and crooked person” had been arrested and “an elderly man who had been taken advantage of by his wife” had been detained.
The Zimbabwe army seized power overnight with gunshots and explosions heard in the capital overnight near where Mr Mugabe and a number of government officials live.
There has been no immediate word from Mr Mugabe himself. It is unclear whether he is in military custody.
A statement read out by the general live on state television denied it was a coup and said Mr Mugabe was safe, but did not say where.



Zimbabwe Major General Sibusiso Moyo (R) reads a statement at the ZBC in HarareArmy spokesman Maj Gen SB Moyo said Mr Mugabe and his family are “safe and sound”.
In a statement broadcast overnight, Moyo insisted: "We wish to make this abundantly clear this is not a military takeover of government.
"What the Zimbabwe defence forces is doing is to pacify a degenerating political, social and economic situation in our country, which if not addressed may result in violent conflict."
Former Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa will now take power according to the ruling ZANU PDF Party.

The party issued a series of tweets this morning, saying there was not a military coup - just a "bloodless transition” after gunshots and explosions were heard in the capital overnight.
The statements read: "Last night the first family was detained and are safe, both for the constitution and the sanity of the nation this was necessary. Neither Zimbabwe nor ZANU are owned by Mugabe and his wife.
"Today begins a fresh new era and comrade Mnangagwa will help us achieve a better Zimbabwe.
"There was no coup, only a bloodless transition which saw corrupt and crooked persons being arrested and an elderly man who had been taken advantage of by his wife being detained.
"The few bangs that were heard were from crooks who were resisting arrest, but they are now detained.



It was believed Mugabe's wife Grace would take over after Mnangagwa was sacked ZANU PF has a way of solving our own problems, the situation is stable and Zimbabwe is open for business. There was no coup, but a bloodless peaceful transition- the centre is strong and there is peace with honest leadership."
Zimbabwe’s military chief denied they were targeting Mr Mugabe and said the army wanted to deal with people who "were committing crimes that are causing social and economic suffering in the country”.
It comes after Emmerson Mnangagwa, 75, was sacked from his post as vice-president for what the government called "traits of disloyalty".
His removal was seen as making it more likely that President Mugabe's wife, Grace, would follow in her husband's footsteps as leader of Zimbabwe.
Mr Mugabe, the self-styled 'Grand Old Man' of African politics, has led Zimbabwe for the last 37 years.
In contrast to his elevated status on the continent, Mr Mugabe is reviled in the West as a despot whose disastrous handling of the economy and willingness to resort to violence to maintain power destroyed one of Africa's most promising states.
The Southern African nation has been on edge since Monday when Constantine Chiwenga, Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, said he was prepared to "step in" to end a purge of supporters of sacked vice president Mr Mnangagwa.
Only a few months ago, Mr Mnangagwa, a former security chief nicknamed "The Crocodile", was favourite to succeed his life-long political patron but was ousted a week ago to pave the way for Mr Mugabe's 52-year-old wife Grace to succeed him.

Seems Mnangagwa,the coup leader got the green light from China to put Bob and Grace under house arrest,carn't have them strung up like Mussolini.
Would not be a good look for the long time Chinese backed anti-imperialist-freedom fighting-anti capitalist-anti running dog warmonger revolutionary hero
to end up like that,better to give him exile with his looted billions.
Mnangagwa and Zanu will do everything to hold power because if they don't there will be payback for the Gukurahundi massacres plus all the killings since.
But near anything is better than Grace taking over,at least in the short term.

A Zimbabwean colleague of mine mentioned to me today "I hope they kill him.Not fast, but slow.I want him to suffer" I used to think she was a nice girl too.

Guess Zimbabwe much be rich in minerals if the tiddly winks are supporting/backing a regime change. Would probably be better off if they just let China run the country.
