Putin: US wants to disrupt upcoming Russian presidential election

The Russian President has said he is “worried” Washington has plans to stir up trouble at the 2018 presidential election, in response to Moscow’s alleged meddling in last year’s vote in the US.

“In response to our alleged interference in their election, [the Americans] want to create problems with the presidential election in Russia,” Putin stated Thursday. In order to do so, Washington might use its “broad connections and dependency” mechanisms in the Olympics committee, the Russian leader said during his official visit to the city of Chelyabinsk.

The president said he is “worried” and has “strong suspicions” the US might attempt to create a certain “disgruntled” atmosphere in the sports community, as the 2018 Winter Olympic games and the election in Russia will closely coincide.

“If that’s the case, it’s very bad; it undermines the whole purpose of the Olympic movement.”

International sports organizations – including the IOC – are very dependent on Washington, Putin stressed. He added that the major companies paying for and providing broadcasting rights, as well as the main sponsors and advertisers, are based in the US.

Earlier in November, the IOC handed a lifetime ban to two Russian cross-country skiers, Alexander Legkov and Evgeniy Belov, annulling their results from the 2014 Sochi Games. The findings of the Denis Oswald Commission, sanctioned by the IOC to investigate alleged Russian state-sponsored doping, were cited as the reason for the ban, while no concrete proof of violations was presented.

Washington has repeatedly accused Moscow of meddling into the 2016 US presidential elections, while failing to provide any solid proof to back up the claims. Russia firmly rejected the allegations of any interference taking place.

For how many millions do they have the jails? The country has 144M people, even 10% would be 14 mil., besides the usual criminals.
Anyway, even none of the Western MSM do not deny the fact that Putin is favored by a huge majority of his subjects, none such case ever in the other world...

    For decades, worldwide.
Interventions, manipulations, strong coercion, unsavoury covert interventions, etc.

It's what they do - securing the empire extension, in one form or another.

...and always overlooked, brushed away, covered up or denied.

The dumbed down, historically, are unaware of the real instigator of problems and the entity that is the most threat to peace might be.

Instead of unfounded wish list presented so vaguely, why don’t you use the English language and state clearly and simply what it is that irks you so?
Your deliberate say nothing flowery language is meaningless. Say what you mean or STFU.

    good point.

while i believe that the americans will eventually retaliate for the russian actions in the 2016 election, it won't be such an obvious tit-for tat.

No definite proof has ever been shown that it was Russia who hacked any part of the US presidential election in fact just the opposite for a hacker came forward saying it was them who did the hacking and as proof provided 'internal DNC memos and opposition research on Trump'. Then Wiki leaks said the information leaked did not come from the Russians and Russia denied they had anything to do with it.

2016 Election Hacking Fast Facts - CNN

We see things like similar to methods used by Russia, evidence mounts. Evidence was supposed to mount thats the whole point of the thing. When an investigation starts with a conclusion and sets out to attempt to prove that conclusion then truth may not emerge.

But as Russia and Putin the designated enemy they must be vilified at every opportunity and it is also an opportunity not just to attack Trump who was not supposed to win but to exert some control over him.

As for the OP well Putin has cause to be suspicious as he is well aware of Americas previous record.

The election hasn't started and you know that in advance?

It reminds me the declaration of one of the POTUSes (what was his name?) who also knew that before the vote counting was finished...

(the high % results have to be always very depressing for the POTUSes, they always spend such big money but the results - despite the wonderful counting technology - has to be adjusted by a brother.

Putin’s approval ratings slip, but public confidence remains strong
    JUne 22, 2017 GALLUP

Support for Vladimir Putin’s “strongman” handling of foreign relations is beginning to decline in Russia. A survey by the Pew Research Center has found that approval for the president’s handling of relations with China, his strongest suit across several areas polled, has dropped 12 points in the past two years.

Equally, the public is beginning to tire of Russian intervention in the Ukraine, and is concerned about Moscow’s relations with the EU and the US.

Domestically, the government’s handling of corruption in Russia, as well as its energy policy, are testing the public’s spirits, with protests across the nation over the past three months.

Yet confidence in Mr Putin remains strong and has increased over time, with 87 per cent of Russians expressing “some” or “a lot of confidence” in his “ability to do the right thing regarding world affairs”.

Poll: Fewer Russians approve of how Putin deals with U.S.
    06/20/2017

Seventy-three percent of Russians reached in a Pew Research Center poll released Tuesday said they approve of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s handling of relations with the U.S., a robust number that nonetheless represents a 12 percentage point drop from the 85 percent who said in 2015 they approved of Putin’s stance toward the U.S.

The Pew Research Center poll was conducted via face-to-face interviews with 1,002 Russian adults nationwide from Feb. 18 to April 3. The margin of error was plus or minus 4 points.

Trump refuses to listen to the CIA. Meanwhile, the Russians deny that Putin and Trump talked about meddling during the APEC meeting where Trump says they did. Trump has always been a snake oil salesman, but he is definitely worried about exposure of the truth.

    From BBC today:
President Trump has refused to acknowledge a
reported assessment by the CIA and other intelligence agencies that
Russia was behind the hacking of the Democratic National Committee (DNC)
in the run-up to last year's presidential election.

Yes, Putin makes rules that people who are convicted of something cannot run for office then gets someone to file trumped up charges against his opposition and gets a pet judge to convict them so that they can't run for office.

It's very simple when you are a dictator.

(Of course this only applies when you know your opposition has got too popular to kill).

Well of course he does, because he's both too stupid to understand it and too afraid that they'll find out he knew about it/was involved.

BTW, the many Putin's footages on youtube with millions of viewers and the thousands of favorable comments underneath (mostly US/UK). How Putin does it, all the hacking?

Putin's Russia is run like a very efficient mob. To have anything to do with that country is to have your foot firmly in organized crime. Not sure about those killings you are referring to, but you might want to look into these.

^ Why not to force all countries to make their election campaigns so transparent and easy counting like they have in the most developed country every 4 years?
I remember one candidate who shout in TV fight: "Shame on you, Obama". Nevertheless, the said Obama made her later USSoS - all the shame faded out...

BTW, speaking about killings, ever tried to google "... body count list"? (sorry, I cannot enter the name, the post would not last 1 minute. Perhaps you can try by yourself)
