Russian Security Agency Arrests Extremist Suspects

MOSCOW — Russia's top domestic security agency said Friday it has detained a group of suspects accused of planning firebomb attacks on official buildings.

The Federal Security Service, or FSB, the main KGB successor agency, said the suspects detained in the Moscow region were planning to hurl firebombs at administrative buildings and attack police over the weekend in order to provoke mass riots.

It said the suspects belonged to the Artpodgotovka (Artillery Bombardment) group founded by opposition activist Vyacheslav Maltsev and were aiming to "destabilize socio-political situation in the country."

The FSB said it also has stopped the activities of Maltsev's group in the cities of Krasnoyarsk, Krasnodar, Kazan, Samar and Saratov - the major provincial centers.

Maltsev, who described himself as a nationalist and anarchist, has said on YouTube that Russia is up for a revolution this weekend just as the nation prepares to mark the centennial of the 1917 Bolshevik revolution on Nov. 7.

Maltsev, a former regional legislator from Saratov, unsuccessfully ran for the federal parliament in 2016. He left Russia during the summer, and in October was arrested in absentia on extremism charges.

This style of "arresting" does not need so much space in prisons.

Police detain dozens in Moscow amid fear of anti-government attacks

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian security services said on Sunday they had detained 263 people in the center of Moscow for “breach of public order”.

It was the latest announcement of a sweep of potential anti-government protesters around this weekend’s marking of Unity Day, essentially the successor to Soviet celebrations of the October 1917 coup that brought the Bolsheviks to power.

Reuters reporters said they had seen police detain a few dozens on a Moscow street, although none of those detained had any posters, nor were they chanting slogans.

The FSB, the successor to the Soviet-era KGB, said on its web site on Friday that it had arrested all the members of Artpodgotovka, an anti-government movement in the Moscow region, and seized 15 bottles of Molotov cocktail.

It said the group had planned “extremists actions in the form of arson of administrative buildings with the use of incendiary fuel and attacks on the members of police to provoke mass unrest” on Nov. 4-5, Unity Day weekend.

A poisoned tip umbrella is the weapon of choice. No long term cost. Maybe two bullets in the back of the suicides head.

    Trying again.
This morning I was just wondering how such big world news about 263 people (in another case about 4 people) make headlines to our attention.

Whilst there are currently thousands people demonstrating against POTUS in South Korea and Japan (seeing many links about that), however, that is escaping our notice.
(but we are not so attentive to POTUS, are we?)

Obviously, my remark is "off topic" ...

It's quite acceptable to torch government buildings in the west. It's an excuse for western leaders to shoot a few.
