The shooter, a 64-year-old from Mesquite, Nevada, was firing from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel at the festival. Condolences to all the victims and their loved ones

Yet as harry and Ant point out these events recur

The fact that ordinary non gun owners are not protesting daily until the constitution speaks volumes to apathy, justified real fear of crime and the power of NRA

I've lost count of the number of these tragedies, social media and the ease of access seem to encourage these folks, here nuts just use facebook or TV .

Are there any Americans here who can explain why there is no concerted anti gun movement, or is it irrelevant until it hits your family, the same lack of solidarity and empathy that makes US the only developed nation wiithout a national helath service free to all?

If you live in a cabin in Alaska or the bear country of Rockies a permit for a hunting rifle maybe , downtown Las Vegas insane.
I went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day but I couldn’t find any.

But in cahoots with Paddock, or just lost her ID at a bad place and time?

Perhaps it's that the pro-gun movement is more vociferous and Dunning-Kruger? Nobody wants to argue with a simpleton with an open-carry permit.

this senseless gun atrocity isn't going to cause any laws to be changed.

just like the previous senseless gun atrocity didn't cause any laws to be changed.

and just like the inevitable next senseless gun atrocity won't cause any laws to be changed.

i finally came to this realization after newtown....when twenty 6-7 year old children were slaughtered in their classrooms with a semi automatic weapon.....and no laws were changed. if ever there was a time to pass common sense gun control legislation, that was it....but nothing happened.

FFS, a congressman was gunned down at a baseball game a few months ago and no one even thought about changing the gun laws.

the NRA (and the politicians in its pockets) are going to lay low for the next few days...they won't be defending the indefensible on TV ...the current strategy is just to wait it out...eventually it will be replaced by something else in the 24 hour news cycle.....one thing that i can assure you of is that no vote on gun control will come to house floor.

this is apparently what america wants, and americans will have to suffer the consequences.

One report says there were numerous firearms in the hotel room, possibly emptying a mag from one then picking up another.

All the big wigs are coming out with "Prayers"

Stuff the useless prayers get in there and give blood the hospitals and wounded will sure need it.

    Sadly so it seems.
When it's Achmed or Ali doing the shooting, the NRA rednecks will claim being armed would protect them against terrorists.
Frighteningly, Achmed or Ali may just have got an idea from this Las Vegas tragedy and next time instead of running amock on the street, will shoot with a bunch of automatic weapons from an elevated position into a crowd. They'll see that the death toll was higher than most terrorist acts in America. With gun regulation so very very lax and inadequate, what's to stop Achmed buying half a dozen machine guns and booking in to a hotel overlooking the next concert, or the horse races, or the crowds leaving an NFL game? Imagine 3 of them in 3 rooms overlooking a crowded event.
    Scary.
Go on America, keep allowing anyone to buy guns.

not just guns, but assault weapons that everyone rational knows should only be in the hands of the military.

How heartwarming that POTUS took time out of his busy golfing scheduling to post a tweet of sympathy.

The 32nd is to the top floor, a photo from Trip Adviser with comments, but looking north up the strip with the Luxor next door, but the room could have been the ones you see from his view. They would have looked right across the street.
