Mark Zuckerberg confirms Facebook is working on mind-reading technology

Facebook is developing technology to let users communicate using only their thoughts, the internet giant confirmed on Wednesday night.

A secretive division at Facebook’s California headquarters has been experimenting with mind-reading technology for several months, the company revealed.

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s founder, has previously described telepathy as the “ultimate communication technology”, but the social network’s ambitions have been unclear.

At Facebook’s annual developer conference on Wednesday, Regina Dugan, head of the company’s experimental technologies division Building 8, said Facebook was working on “optical neuro-imaging systems” that would allow people to type words directly from their brain at 100 words per minute: five times the speed possible on a smartphone.

“It sounds impossible but it’s closer than you think,” said Ms Dugan, who joined Facebook from Google last year and previously led DARPA, the US government’s advanced defence research division.

She said that allowing people to rapidly transcribe thoughts would allow them to privately send texts and emails in an instant, but said the project was only the beginning of Facebook’s mind-reading efforts. Ms Dugan suggested that in the future, people may be able to share thoughts directly, removing the barriers of different languages. “You may be able to share your thoughts independent of language: English Spanish or Mandarin, they become the same,” she said.

Despite Facebook’s almost 2bn users, Mr Zuckerberg is investing heavily in ideas such as virtual reality to ensure that the social network is not brushed aside by new technologies.

Ms Dugan said a major barrier to reading thoughts would be developing non-invasive sensors capable of detecting brainwaves.

They do it already! They only need 300 likes to do an accurate profile to decide your thoughts.

By 2007, a year after the Island Forum meeting that included Gilman Louie, Facebook received its second round of $12.7 million worth of funding from Accel Partners. Accel was headed up by James Breyer, former chair of the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) where Louie also served on the board while still CEO of In-Q-Tel. Both Louie and Breyer had previously served together on the board of BBN Technologies — which had recruited ex-DARPA chief and In-Q-Tel trustee Anita Jones.

Facebook’s 2008 round of funding was led by Greylock Venture Capital, which invested $27.5 million. The firm’s senior partners include Howard Cox, another former NVCA chair who also sits on the board of In-Q-Tel. Apart from Breyer and Zuckerberg, Facebook’s only other board member is Peter Thiel, co-founder of defense contractor Palantir which provides all sorts of data-mining and visualization technologies to US government, military and intelligence agencies, including the NSA and FBI, and which itself was nurtured to financial viability by Highlands Forum members.

Palantir co-founders Thiel and Alex Karp met with John Poindexter in 2004, according to Wired, the same year Poindexter had attended the Highlands Island Forum in Singapore. They met at the home of Richard Perle, another Andrew Marshall acolyte. Poindexter helped Palantir open doors, and to assemble “a legion of advocates from the most influential strata of government.” Thiel had also met with Gilman Louie of In-Q-Tel, securing the backing of the CIA in this early phase.

And so we come full circle. Data-mining programs like ExecuteLocus and projects linked to it, which were developed throughout this period, apparently laid the groundwork for the new NSA programmes eventually disclosed by Edward Snowden.By 2008, as Facebook received its next funding round from Greylock Venture Capital, documents and whistleblower testimony confirmed that the NSA was effectively resurrecting the TIA project with a focus on Internet data-mining via comprehensive monitoring of e-mail, text messages, and Web browsing.

The brain dead aspect could easily include not just FB [and other social mediums], but extended to the masses, generally speaking.

Doesn't take too much keen observations to realize this.
Look at how we really are.......in particular, the noteworthy cultures.

    Conditioned and dumbed down.
Effortless for them when they have disconnected and easily manipulated subjects.

    The slumber continues.
