Eyewitnesses describe seeing a man with a knife within the confines of the Palace, while the journalist Quentin Letts described seeing a "parliamentary security men shoot a man who had attacked a policeman".

There are also reports of a dozen people injured on Westminster Bridge after a car attempted to run down a number of pedestrians, but this has not yet been confirmed

Shots are reported to have been fired close to the Houses of Parliament in central London.
Politicians and journalists have tweeted about hearing loud crashes outside the buildings,
Witnesses said they saw people being treated for wounds and reported seeing a man with a knife in the grounds.
Staff inside Parliament were told to stay inside their offices. The BBC's Laura Kuenssberg said police told her someone had been shot.
She said MPs had told her they heard "three or four gunshots".
Tom Peck, political editor for the Independent, tweeted: "There was a loud bang. Screams. Commotion. Then the sound of gunshots. Armed police everywhere."
Scotland Yard said it was called to a firearms incident on Westminster Bridge amid reports of several people injured.
Transport for London said Westminster underground station has been shut at the police's request.

Seems he rammed a load of people on Westminster bridge before crashing the car at the House of Commons. Then stabbed a policeman before being shot.

The Metropolitan Police say they are aware of an incident in Westminster.

The Prime Minister was said to have been voting in the division lobby and was escorted out of the building by a plain clothes policeman and put in a car. Sky News understands she has now left the area.

Staff inside Parliament have been told to stay inside their offices.

An air ambulance landed in Parliament Square minutes after the incidents and medics were treating two people at the scene.

Sky News said it. Now say that one attacker is injured. Possibilty of two attackers if the guy who stabbed the policeman is not the same man driving the 4 x 4 which knocked people down.

Now reported that people knocked down on bridge and also by railings where 4 x 4 crashed.

"He had one gunshot wound to the right side of his chest. I don't know if he was dead or alive, but people were working on him."
