Kangaroos imported and released in USA

Holy Hippity-Hop, Batman! Those Kangaroos are coming right at us!

First 90 Kangaroos released in Wyoming
    APRIL 1, 2017

(Dubois, Wyo) – The Wyoming Wild Game Department (WWGD) partnering with the Wyoming Migration Initiative (WMI) have released the first of 5 planned batches of 90 Antilopine Kangaroos into the Wyoming outdoors.

Dubbed “Project Sage Hopper” by the WWGD team responsible for evaluating the viability of Wyoming’s habitat for Australian marsupials, it has been in the planning stages for 3 years. The goal is two-fold: Create new and interesting wildlife viewing opportunities for tourists, and in several years, potentially provide additional hunting opportunities.

“Antilopine means ‘antelope-like, so we are interested to see how these kangeroos adapt to Wyoming’s wild landscapes,” WMI Director Matt Kauffman said. “If they start migrating, we’ll be tracking their movements, looking to see how they learn to exploit the sage steppe and the mountains, where they ‘hopover,’ those sorts of things.”

Those roos will do ok. A load of them (wallabies in fact) were released in Canterbury and Central Otago areas NZ, and from what I last heard were still thriving and spreading, to the extent that regional councils have a shoot to kill policy out for them.

Wild colonies of wallabies are reported in Derbyshire, UK, France, near Paris, another mob on the Isle of man, and yet another lot on the island of Lambay, in the Irish Sea, just off the coast of Ireland.

    Psych!

Were 90 kangaroos released in Wyoming?

The Wyoming Migration Initiative fooled many of its Facebook fans today with a convincing photograph (accompanied by fake news article) about a group of kangaroos that were released in the state:

    Happy April Fool's Day!

Good luck to them? Kangaroos are a pest in their native country. I hope they also become a pest in Wyoming. Will serve them right for messing with nature.

Kangaroos don't have predators in Australia, but Wyoming is different as there's bears, wolves coyotes mountain lion and guns on every person.

They would all die around winter time.

Kangaroos live in the Australian Snowy Mountains right through the Arctic winter along with the Brumbies.
Now it's conceivable that the Wallabies in Wyoming will live alongside the mustang.

I know a lot about Wyoming because I read the whole series of " My friend Flicka " by Mary O Hara.
