Man Admits Pulling Niqab Off Woman's Face

Man admits pulling niqab off Muslim woman in Sunderland

Court hears Peter Scotter yelled ‘you’re in our country now’ at victim, who was in shopping centre with nine-year-old son.

A man has admitted pulling a niqab off a woman in a shopping centre and yelling racist abuse at her.

Peter Scotter, 55, of Roker, Sunderland, appeared at Newcastle crown court to admit racially aggravated assault by beating and a separate charge of racially aggravated harassment.

Both offences were based on Scotter’s hostility towards a particular religious group, namely Islam, the court heard.

Tony Hawks, defending, said Scotter had been diagnosed with a serious cancerous tumour under his tongue last week and was due to have an operation next Monday. “I have seen some documentation showing that the diagnosis is pretty bad,” the barrister said.

The judge, Stephen Earl, said he would sentence Scotter later, once he had heard more details about the diagnosis. The judge said: “This is a custodial-band sentence, given his record and the nature of his actions.”

A previous hearing at Sunderland magistrates court heard how Scotter left his victim terrified when he attacked her in July.

Laura Lax, prosecuting, told the hearing the woman was waiting with her nine-year-old son for her husband outside a store in Bridges shopping centre in Sunderland when a man “purposefully” walked towards her and grabbed her niqab.

The force he used almost threw her to the ground and the niqab came away from her face, exposing her and causing pain to her neck.

She remembered being scared but was so shocked she could not remember what was said, magistrates were told. The niqab was damaged, but she has since repaired it.

Lax told the court the victim said afterwards: “This incident has left me scared to go out and I don’t want to go into town again. I am disgusted my nine-year-old son had to witness this.”

Another witness heard Scotter shout: “Here, take that fucking off, you are in our country now, you stupid fucking Muslim.”

When a police officer arrived, Scotter was being spoken to by a security guard and the defendant tried to walk away.

Scotter was heard to say: “Our Britain, you live by our fucking rules,” before coming out with more racist abuse.

He continued to make derogatory comments when he was interviewed after his arrest, Lax said.

When he attended previous hearings about the niqab offence, Scotter made a middle finger gesture to photographers outside court.

He has 66 previous convictions for 157 offences, including actual bodily harm, breaching a football banning order and racially aggravated criminal damage.

Scotter had been due to stand trial for the niqab offences next month.

The judge told Scotter he would be sentenced in three weeks’ time and granted him conditional bail.

As Scotter left court, he declined to answer why he was covering his face with a scarf and gestured defiantly to waiting photographers.

Are we allowed to say "so what"? Or do we have to be taken into Room 101 for failing to see a problem here?

I am sure he will support "our rules" when the judge sends him down.

A couple of years jail time and a few good thrashings behind the kitchens by the warders would have sorted him out after his first offence.

His oral cancer with which he has been afflicted might suggest a certain karmic balance to his conduct over what has certainly been a worthless life riven with violence, anger and bitter resentment.

The poor wretch has no conception of just how much decent society loathes him and his ilk.

Certainly, a Brexshitter and typical of their breed.

    society loathes him
society these days sees these meatheads as victims of some ill defined society inflicted unfairness and in their guilt will do everything to avoid punishing them in the mistaken belief that kindness, tolerance and a hot cup of lefty liberalism is all that is needed to rehabilitate these hopeless parasites into upstanding members of society.

In truth, I suspect he was probably abused by what may have passed for his parents involving bouts of sadistically inflicted pain, both physically and mentally. Any notion of conventional self esteem was no doubt beaten out of him as a child and his learning experiences would have consequently been founded on the belief that aggression, pain and humiliation were all forms of legitimate communication.

As you have rightly alluded Tax, although I accept not for the reason you intended, the vile man is indeed probably as much a victim as those he has assailed over the years.

Tax, you really must learn to curb these irrational and incoherent bouts of bile-driven abuse aimed at your imaginary foes.

you would think that 55 years later he might have matured a little and gotten over it.

Just as the house built upon sand is swept away in the first inundation, so will be the man bereft of love. Remember my son, the child is the father of the man and if he was broken on the wheel of cruelty and evil, then who can blame the man for being a cripple?

Tax, that cup of yours needs a tad more filling up.

You like doing straw man retorts don't you. How long have you supported the oppression of women and ethnic cleansing?

Why do you think pulling a niqab off an idiot is an "attack" on them and another who wasn't wearing one and wasn't touched?
Why don't you read beyond the rhetoric in the article and reach the facts? Wearing a niqab is an aggressive political statement.

Not in our country, it's not. But perhaps Mr Scotter will mention it if he decides to appeal his jail sentence.

Alright, so wearing a niqab is not an aggressive political statement. My mistake. I was wrong. I apologise. Is everything better now? All happy?

Islamophobia in Britain: Muslim woman 'has veil ripped off in racist attack' outside London university

    March 7, 2016 17:27
A Muslim student had her face veil ripped off in a racist attack outside a London university, it has been claimed. The woman had joined members of an Islamic Society running a stall outside the Strand campus of King's College London (KCL) as part of Discover Islam awareness week on 4 March.
The group, who were handing out literature, became involved in a 30-minute altercation when two men who approached the stall behaving in a "threatening and abusive" manner towards female Muslim students. The incident allegedly then resulted in one woman's niqab being violently pulled from her face.

Hareem Ghani, a student and friend of the woman allegedly attacked, said: "Two white men approached sisters on the stalls outside Strand and began to verbally assault them. This eventually escalated to physical threats of violence, and a fellow sister had her niqab (full-face veil) pulled off by one of the men."
Ghani and the university's Islamic Society complained the KCL security staff were slow to intervene. The Society has now written an open letter to the principal of King's College London claiming the university had a "double standard" when it dealt with Muslim students and that security only got involved when animal rights activists were also subject to verbal abuse.
The university said in a statement its security called the police at 1.10pm, approximately 10 minutes after its control room was notified of the incident. A statement issued by KCL said: "We are mindful of concerns raised around this incident and would like to reassure our staff and students that the safety and security of our campuses is of the utmost importance.
"The incident is now being investigated by the police, following the arrests made yesterday, and our CCTV footage will be provided as evidence as part of this process. We will continue to support the police in their investigation, which will take precedence over our own proceedings.
"However, we will also be reviewing the incident, including the CCTV evidence, to establish precisely what happened and further improve student safety on campus."
The incident comes as the latest crime stats show a 60% rise in the number of Islamophobic crimes
in London over the past two years. Figures from January 2014 to January 2015 saw 667 reported Islamophobic crimes, compared to 1,068 reported the next 12-month period.A spokesman for the Met Police said two men, aged 39 and 41, had been arrested shortly after the recent incident under the Public Order Act. The pair have been bailed until 2 May.

The ironic thing is that, while this guy is clearly a twat and absolutely deserves what he gets for this little white pride stunt, the reality is that these veils/masks/etc are absolutely tools of oppression and the women wearing them (even to some extent those wearing them 100% by choice) are victims of a different kind altogether.

Disagree with this guy, agree with countries like France who won't tolerate this public oppression of women
