U.S. says will prevent China taking over territory in international waters

    Another bombshell...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The new U.S. administration of President Donald Trump vowed on Monday that the United States would prevent China from taking over territory in international waters in the South China Sea, something Chinese state media has said would require Washington to "wage war."

"I think the U.S. is going to make sure that we protect our interests there," White House spokesman Sean Spicer told a news briefing.

"It’s a question of if those islands are in fact in international waters and not part of China proper, then yeah, we’re going to make sure that we defend international territories from being taken over by one country."

Spicer was responding to a question as to whether Trump agreed with comments by his Secretary of State nominee, Rex Tillerson, on Jan. 11 that China should not be allowed access to islands it has built in the contested South China Sea.
Tillerson's remarks at his Senate confirmation hearing prompted Chinese state media to say the United States would need to "wage war" to bar China's access to the islands where it has built military-length air strips and installed weapons systems.

Tillerson said at the hearing, when asked whether he supported a more aggressive posture toward China: "We’re going to have to send China a clear signal that, first, the island-building stops and, second, your access to those islands also is not going to be allowed.”

The former Exxon Mobil Corp chairman and chief executive did not elaborate on what might be done to deny China access to the islands.

China's Foreign Ministry said it could not guess what Tillerson meant by his remarks, which came after Trump questioned Washington's longstanding and highly sensitive "one-China" policy over Taiwan.

China's embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the remarks from the White House.

Aides have said that Trump, who took office on Friday, plans a major naval build-up in East Asia to counter China's rise.

^I don't hate anybody. I am greatly disappointment by some but their own actions are their responsibilities. Their actions are measurable, their affects visible. Many accept any missive as fact. I try and find the truth.

My experience of individuals, of all races and status, have been very good. My experience of ameristani institutions not so much.

My experience of the death and destruction they been causing for decades dissuades me from agreeing with their methodology of "solving" problems. Their lying and illegal activities has made me question every word and action they make.

I look at the current POTUSE and note his continuance of the stance of ameristani exceptionalism, I note his inability since being inaugurated to proceed in a democratic manner. He is continuing to use a dictators power by signing documents which continue to affect not only ameristanis citizens but the worlds. I note his tone from his inauguration acceptance speech , his first officially POTUSE speech, where he continued with extreme measures not suited or beneficial to any beyond the ameristani population. I note the insistence on the ameristani way as the only way.

Having lived and worked in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia and met every strata of society on occasions I have realised that most people just want a reasonable life, some are fixated with wealth, some on being the alpha, some on helping the less fortunate.

What they don't want is lying cheating bureaucrats or politicians which are prevalent in western society more in my opinion.

Having, now, time to investigate I am able to read and experience more. I no longer have a requirement or wish to increase my wealth.

As an example look at the POTUSE inauguration speech, compare it to President Xi's speech at Davos. The differences to me are apparent. The Davos speech seems to me, to be inclusive, humanitarian and morally acceptable. The DC speech is not.

Yet you seemed to be on board supporting him early on. I said that he was by far anything but the dove you thought he would be. He is a stupid saber rattling tyrant with a small penis. Hillary would have continued to with the neocon agenda no doubt but at least we would not have had to worry about a war with China or the fact that this buffoon has the nuclear football.

I believe I used the phase, "It's too early to say", many times. I also posted that until he had been inaugurated he was free to say anything he wished.

From his inauguration speech he has shown he wishes to withdraw from many of institutions of the world. In that speech he has shown a 1940s mentality of withdrawing behind walls, physical, financial, trade etc. How anybody can suggest he is capable of delivering super deals, from a multi bankrupt person is beyond me. To me his record smacks of failure on too many occasions.

I suspect one would not, now, be needing to worry about Clinton's actions, they would have been made crystal clear with her immediate actions.

Those are not "its" sea lanes. The Champa Sea (it's correct name) is not Chinese territory in any sense by any historical or legal fact.
    https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=...page&q&f=false
The Vietnameses just have to get over their hang ups about how they treated the Chams and the Khmers and Laos if they want to get their islands back.

The number of red herrings and non-sequiturs the Chinese wheel out with old maps mean nothing, and if recognised would result in all the borders of the whole world having to be redrawn just because some bloke maybe once saw a rock in the distance - otherwise they'd all be British.

Would you like to read the UNCLOS, anyway? There are very clear rules about rights of passage for vessels, and China's export economy depends on those rules being honoured in order for the endless convoy of container ships to flow.
China keeps spouting on about International Law when it tries to assert it's claim; and then rejects international law when it clearly states that the concept of "traditional fishing grounds" is not legal - the Spanish could say that about the Irish Sea! The Chi' can't cherrypick from international law to get what they want. The west has pussyfooted around them for too long; time to stand up to 'em. We ain't having a Chinese-run world.

Let's see the US and UK put military bases in the Champa Sea, and send a really clear message to China.

It showed blank for me at first, then showed pages when I scrolled up a bit, but I lost the place.

Just now,(later today) I clicked on it and got straight to the expected page.

It works for me now. The book is more Indonesian biased, but as you say it's one mans opinion.

There are some historical and legal links to China's claim on the main SCS thread which suggest otherwise.

Are there fuckery. If you think you have any, post 'em; Mandarin is not a problem either. You need to refer to the actual law, not some episode of Monkey Magic from the 70s.

Rather than blather, can you actually explain where the evidence of "bias" is? If it's just that it contradicts your unevidenced suppositions, then that's not really bias, now, is it.

Each "part" is divided into "sections", each "section" is divided in to "articles". Would you like to choose any particular one or are only interested in the headline "part" title?

What is of interest to you about the Part II title?
    PART II
    TERRITORIAL SEA AND CONTIGUOUS ZONE

Why are you so concerned about practises of a particular religion? Anybody can practice their chosen religion in their own home. One doesn't need a temple and a gaudy costume.

    Diversion.
The adherents feel they do. What's wrong with raising funds and building a temple?

The adherents are fearful from listening to the "wise old man". Religion is designed as a con, always has been.

I was in Rome with my father on holiday many years ago. He, being a relapsed catholic, wanted to visit the vatican city. We did so and went into a vatican museum.

The sickening untold billions of GBPs of wealth on display was too much for us both.

So yes the "raising of funds to build another temple" for somebody to preach tolerance, sharing and collect the pittances from the congregation, all to ensure ones safe entry into whatever paradise is called. To me seems somewhat wrong.

"BEIJING, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- China has more than 11,000 islands with Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong having the largest number, according to a survey by the State Oceanic Administration (SOA).

The number was calculated as of Dec. 31, 2015. The total area of the islands account for about 0.8 percent of the nation's land area, with most of the islands in the nation's southern shore region.

China has built a nationwide island conservation planning system, according to the survey. Since 2010, the nation repaired damaged islands with 3.6 billion yuan (about 525 million U.S. dollars) from the central budget, 2.6 billion yuan from the local budget and 300 million yuan from enterprises, in a total of 169 projects.

Meanwhile, the SOA has successfully finished a census of the names of all the islands. By the end of 2015, the administration had approved the exploration and utilization of 16 uninhabited islands, covering about 1,666 hectares."

    Fixed your error for you.

It's been doing that since it was allowed to be formed. Nothing new to suggest.
