US backed rebels burn evacuation busses in Aleppo

Several buses sent to transport the sick and injured from two government-held villages in Syria's Idlib province have been burned by rebels.

The attack apparently halted the latest efforts to evacuate besieged areas.
Pro-government forces say people must be allowed to leave the mainly Shia villages of Foah and Kefraya for the evacuation of east Aleppo to restart.

State media said convoys began to leave Aleppo on Sunday but other reports said they turned back.

The initial plan to evacuate the last rebel-held enclaves in the city collapsed on Friday, leaving civilians stranded at various points along the route out without access to food or shelter.

BEIRUT - More than 4,000 fighters left Aleppo in recent hours as the evacuation of rebel-held parts of the city nears its conclusion, the International Committee of the Red Cross said Thursday.

"Overnight between Wednesday and Thursday, in one of the last stages of the evacuation, more than 4,000 fighters were evacuated in private cars, vans, and pick-ups from eastern Aleppo," said Ingy Sedky, the ICRC's spokeswoman in Syria.
She said about 34,000 people had now left rebel areas of Aleppo under an evacuation deal that will allow President Bashar al-Assad's forces to retake control of the city after years of fighting.
The evacuations began last week but were hampered in recent days by heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures.

"The bad weather, including heavy snow and wind, and the poor state of vehicles (many of them had to be towed) mean things are moving much more slowly than expected," Sedky said.
"The evacuation will continue for the entire day and night and most probably tomorrow. Thousands are still expected to be evacuated."

Why on earth are there none of those ginormous US Aircraft Carriers parked up alongside the coast to call the Russians' bluff? All that money thrown at building all that tech and might, and the turd that encouraged the revolt just stands by with his hands in his pockets and shrugs as he walks out of the white house. Shameless. Putin was made by this Nobel prize turkey.

The US has a long history of dumping its friends in war over to the enemy.

The army announcement came after state television reported that the last convoy of four buses carrying rebels and civilians had left east Aleppo and arrived in the government-controlled Ramussa district south of the city.
