British Airways flying waitresses to go on strike

Here we go again.... Miserable fucking Turkeys voting for Christmas. Last time it was because they couldn't be arsed giving out cold towels.

They must think the airline is a fucking charity.

Cabin crew at BA vote to strike over Christmas

British Airways passengers face disruption to flights over Christmas and the New Year after cabin crew voted overwhelmingly in favour of strikes.

The Unite union said its members backed walkouts by 4-1, giving the green light to strikes that could begin as early as December 21.
The pay dispute involves cabin crew who have joined the airline since 2010, with Unite claiming they earn less than other staff. Turnout in the ballot was 60pc. Unite said it was consulting reps over potential strike dates, with the union compelled to give BA seven days notice of strikes.

The move comes as Britain remains in the grip of a walkout by Southern Rail staff that has caused travel chaos for hundreds of thousands of commuters. Southern said yesterday that services will be "severely disrupted" today, even though drivers will not be on strike, as talks to end their dispute continue.
Unite represents around 2,500 workers out of a total of 4,500 in BA's so-called mixed fleet, which in turn makes up just over a quarter of the company's 16,000 cabin crew.

The union said that 1,519 staff had voted in the ballot, of whom 1,206, or 80pc, voted in favour of strike action.
The union claimed earnings were advertised between £21,000 (€25,000) and £25,000 (€30,000) but in reality started at just over £12,000 (€14,000) plus £3 an hour flying pay.

Unite regional officer Matt Smith said: "Our members have overwhelmingly voted for strike action because British Airways' pay rates are indefensible and the crew are at breaking point.
"Mixed fleet crew earn just over the minimum wage and below the national average. Significant numbers of crew are taking on second jobs, many go to work unfit to fly because they can't afford to be sick.

"British Airways bosses need to wake up to the anger and the injustice here. Not only are the pay rates indefensible but, in aviation, low pay is a safety issue. Thirty percent of the mixed fleet crew have been with the company for just under a year.
"Crew simply can't afford to stay. Inexperience, fatigue, and the fact that BA recently cut the length of crew training courses means Unite is genuinely concerned about the potential repercussions.

"We urge British Airways to avoid this dispute and do the right thing by both the frontline staff and the travelling public, by engaging with Unite."
A BA spokesman said: "We are extremely disappointed that the union is creating uncertainty for our customers. Mixed fleet Unite represents about 15pc of our cabin crew. We remain focused on resolving this issue as quickly as possible without any disruption to customers."

it's always seemed to me that, like nursing, hotel staff, cleaners etc etc etc this is a job that your native Brit needs a bit of help with.

Easy allow free passage for stowaways illegals etc in bound they can learn how to serve drinks in prep for work at Witherloons

Expats emigrating could get free places on outbound.
Imagine being served a Martini by Malcolm , what better start to a trp.

I'd happily toss a few nuts and open some bubbly up the sharp end if only to find that left handed earplug I lost down the recliner on Heathrow Bordeaux , it has great sentimental value and am currently having to use a digital butplug on my hamster

You seemed to miss the bit about three quid an hour flying pay. Multiply that by the number of hours (which are normally hours in the air plus 4-6).

Say an average (minimum) of 160 hours a month x 3 x 12 = another six grand or so on top of it.

So 18 grand for an entry-level glorified waitressing job, I'm pretty sure there are servers in Maccy D's that would love that kind of salary and the benefits of travelling the world for fuck all.

Plus all the free grub, plus the grog they swipe off the pointy end, you don't get those perks in most entry level positions.

And the ID90's which chop 90% off your holiday flights, with free ones for friends and family.

These dozy fuckers think BA still rules the skies.

I always get a bit confused when people take a job - and then complain about the salary. You sure as hell knew the remuneration when taking the position. If it was so awful - why take it in the first place?

Well toslti's link reveals the real truth: The 60 grand a year dragons and queens who still infest BA are using this as an excuse to up their own pay rise, when they're not worth half of what they are paid now, the lazy, miserable c u n t s.

I stopped flying BA years ago because of these cancerous old hags, and if I were Willie Walsh I would have hit them even harder than the last time they tried to bring the airline down.

Let them bring it on. Walsh knows how to deal with these scum, and there will be lots of cabin crew that remember what it cost them last time to try and prop up this dead wood.

My guess is that if they go on strike at all, it won't last long. Unite can't afford to subsidise a load of divas.

It seems to me that 12000 to 14000 pounds is a fairly low salary to live on. In a first world country you should be at least getting a fair liveable wage. If the job was advertised at 21,000+ pounds then they have a reasonable grievance. Its not about inconvenience its about what is fair and reasonable. Just because someone is desperate to take a job does not give a company or anyone the right to exploit them.

A Great British Christmas from British Airways

Obviously it will be a great holiday in Britain because you won't be able to fly abroad with BA for Christmas.

I stopped flying BA years ago because of these cancerous old hags,
more fool you, you nicotine addicted loudmouth.

after years of flying with raghead airlines i changed and have flown ba (man-bkk) three times in the past couple of years, once business class, once premium economy and once tourist class and each time the service was exemplary. every request made was carried out professionally and with good grace and on occasion with that most british of characteristics, self deprecating humour as opposed to an "asian pout", a "blank stare" or the "i'm not a waitress, i'm a stewardess" glare so often encountered on lesser airlines.

when you enter the cabin of a british airways plane you immediately feel "back home", which after a few months in thailand and three hours of suwannaphum misery is a welcome relief, and something not experienced in the raghead cabins with their seatback compasses pointing to mecca, their hijab clad crew, their rancid filthy toilets and frankly, many of their passengers, especially on the bangkok to the gulf leg of the journey.

true, the ba cabin crews are not the most attractive nor are they in the first flush of youth, and some definitely bat for the other side, but they are friendly without being fawning, ingratiating or obsequious and they are both efficient and down to earth, with none of the "attitude" often shown by the younger prettier members of the profession who seem to think that glamour is the most important prerequisite of the job and ability to serve the least important.

and their fares were also much better than the raghead airlines.

but i suppose for some shallow folk, appearance is of more importance than ability.

i dont know why they are striking, but it has no doubt been instigated by left wing union troublemakers who, like the fucking southern rail guards, are taking their anger at being forced into opposition for the foreseeable future out on the travelling public

Flight attendants are just the flip side of the cheapish airline industry [most, which are subsidized in one manner or another]

Wonder if anyone realizes that commercial pilots make shit in comparison to their worth and value regarding their levels of responsibilities, skill, and knowledge in the sphere of public service.

12,000 is pretty miserable pay though isn't it. Especially if the job is advertised as 25,000 up as the article says.

They don't have to do it if they don't want to. The male flight attendants on Quantas are all gay so they are not in it for the money.

Thanks to the chartered accountants around the world all the once decently paid jobs are now badly paid with benefits stripped away.
They won't be happy until we are all slaves.
I've been seeing this happen for the last 26 years, all the once good comfortable jobs you could earn a living from have been taken away by computers or stripped of pay and working benefits.

I think the worst part of a hostie's job is putting up with people farting.

I mean, it's not like it's that hard to walk up and down serving piss and sticky pudding.

The old slappers on BA should consider themselves very lucky they are not arsed out of the job once they reach a certain ugliness, age or fatness.

Give me an Asian airline any-day.

Top class bints with a good attitude and a lovely smile.

Fook the Mincers on Coontus and the old ugly bints on BA.

    It's 12,000 basic plus 6,000 flying hours.

18 grand for a job that needs slightly more ability than a KFC server is fucking good wonga.

Like I said the BASSA wankers are just using this to get a bigger rise on their 60 grand a year salaries for jobs that equate to KFC shift leaders.

The last time I flew BA was up the front from the Gulf to Boston, and the only thing that stopped them being miserable the entire flights was that they all fucked off for a skive as soon as the meal service finished.

And they have pitiful ground service as well, fucked up my seat requests twice and abdicated all responsibility like the dumb, pin money fishwives they are.

On Qatar you get looked after, and they don't wear hijabs (nor do they on Gulf, Etihad or Emirates) so you're a lying fucker.

My guess is you flew in the cheap seats on a Gulf Traveller flight and didn't like the fact that they treated you like the low class tosser you clearly are.

then the cabin must have been full of the sort of moneyed raghead scum that treat staff like slaves and never stop making stupid demands on them, such as " bring me another peanut", "my drink is 3 degrees too warm" or "serve me my meal before the others" the cabin crew are entitled to hide away when dealing with customers like that.

On Qatar you get looked after,
by characterless drones reading from a script.

I have some very disappointing customer service issues with BA in the past, however I have also been on a flight when the landing gear would not set and I was so impressed by the flight crews ability to deal with a crisis.
Their selection and training seems to me to be second to none.
There is a huge disparity though between the salaries. Those on old contracts understandably are not going to give them up and newly employed and merged staff are very dissatisfied as they cannot get onto the long haul to earn the big bucks.
