    ^ Thank You.

My first thought was "Who the feck is AA Gill?" and secondly what has that got to do with Thailand.
Anyway, I hope he recovers or dies painlessly.
We have our own restaurant critic, so we still live in hope.

    "Who cares?"

Quite a few people, I would guess. Probably starting with his fiance.

I always liked his writing and style.

"what has that got to do with Thailand."

Nothing, which is why I put it in the World News subforum. There isn't a British News for British Gentlemen subforum. Quite unfortunately, Sir.

Oh I do say goodman, that is rather splendid.

Yes, I've got a couple of his books. A very gifted man.

Let's hope Sophia's demise will arouse more interest.

aa gill is a noted bon vivant and an accomplished wordsmith whos books and newspaper columns never disappoint.

it sounds as if he is not long for this life and i will miss his wit and his astute observations of society.

AA Gill has a sparkling wit, and a way with words. Damn fine restaurant critic too- he pulls no punches. Gordon Ramsay once threw him out.

Some trivia- he suffers from severe dyslexia. All of his prose is 'written' via dictation.

On the Welsh, 1998- "loquacious, dissemblers, immoral liars, stunted, bigoted, dark, ugly, pugnacious little trolls".
That one landed him in some trouble.

On the Isle of Man, 2006- "managed to slip through a crack in the space-time continuum […] fallen off the back of the history lorry to lie amnesiac in the road to progress […] its main industry is money (laundering, pressing, altering and mending) […] everyone you actually see is Benny from Crossroads or Benny in drag…. The weather's foul, the food's medieval, it's covered in suicidal motorists and folk who believe in fairies."
And 2010 (Gill doesn't forget a feud easily)- "hopeless, inbred mouth-breathers known as Bennies" and "retired, small arms dealers and accountants who deal in rainforest futures"

In February 2011, Gill described the county of Norfolk as 'the hernia on the end of England'

A real character, who has excelled himself with his loquacious description of his own demise. He Will be missed by many.

You would think that a 62 year old multi-millionaire would be on top of things, when it comes to health check ups etc.

I love this bloke- Real Man love!! On the French, Vanity Fair, April 2014:-

    LIBERTÉ! EGALITÉ! FATIGUÉ!

When was the last time you enjoyed, say, a contemporary French film? How many must-see French actors are there? Their most famous actor has now taken out Russian citizenship (and moved to Belgium). Name a living French painter worth the wall space. Name a great French musician. A novelist, apart from Michel Houellebecq—and the French hate him. Their vaunted cuisine has become a moribund tourist performance. Unable to change, terrified of innovation, France has become the Bourbons, who famously forgot nothing and learned nothing.

There were four articles I always went to first when I picked up my copy of the Sunday Times: AA Gill's Restaurant criticisms, Winner's Dinners and Clarkson on his weekly thought piece and car review.

What a shame and he shall be missed. His earlier choice of filly was a bit off but I suppose because they came from the same sort of stable they probably thought they might as well breed accordingly. He was a great chum of Clarkson which probably accounts for his withering jabs on matters Manx.

His views on the Welsh were finely judged and summed up the ghastly, stumpy fuckers perfectly.

I am sorry to learn that any man is ill. Gill is a racist pig whose anti-Welsh sentiments have not pleased a nation.

Well, the more I learn the more I seem to like the man.

He sounds like the Jeremy Clarkson of restaurant critics.

    On a famous model-

I first saw Kate Moss 11 years ago in Milan at the shows. It was a time when models were all huge, muscular, impossible Amazons. Garment missiles... with legs like German architecture. The catwalks were full of girls who looked like identical assassins.

.... If Kate Moss used banana peels as knickers, she’d triple the economy of Costa Rica overnight.

The phony hated the English and Welsh, claimed to be Scots, yet only ever lived there a year as a child.

The shrieking misanthropist wasn't much more than a lousy cook criticising others' culinary efforts, so bad indeed at both cooking and commenting that he was thrown out of Gordon Ramsay's gaff for being offensive. A loud mouthed alcoholic who screamed for attention by running others down wholesale, capitalizing on the misinformed prejudices of his pig-ignorant readers.

Gill is just a bit of Scots slush that SAsylum slavishly attempts to imitate in his particular racist thirst for dubious attention.

Are you beginning to get headaches and keep losing your balance when emerging from the shower, ENT? Do you suffer from visual aberrations, tremors in your extremities and wake up shuddering and a-shaking?

Don't worry, it's just your brain going through a metamorphosis evolving from the current hazelnut sized organ to one approaching a walnut in girth.

Speaking in tongues and babbling incoherently will, however, persist which of course comes as no impediment to you since you seem to have gone through life unhampered by this disability.

Don't tell me about your problems, go see a doctor. Or are you the sort that goes to the plumber for a new phone?

If so, ask someone nearby for help.
    Cheers.

I don't think the differences between the English, Scots, Welsh & Irish are anything to do with race. The cry of 'racist' in a totally inappropriate context merely highlights the intellectual inadequacy of the caller. It is a sort of corollary to Godwin's Law.

Whether you found Gill's writings disagreeable or not, he certainly had an admirable grasp of the English language - no matter which country in which he was read.
