Syria conflict: 'Israel missiles' hit Damascus military airport

    .
The attack in Mezzeh is reported to have caused fires, but no casualties.
The Israeli military has made no comment, but it is the second time in a week that it is alleged to have carried out a strike on Syrian territory.

It is thought to have bombed weapons shipments intended for Lebanon's Hezbollah movement several times since Syria's civil war began in 2011.

Hezbollah, which fought a month-long war with Israel in 2006, has sent thousands of fighters to Syria to support President Bashar al-Assad's forces.

    Profile: Lebanon's Hezbollah movement
Syria's state news agency, Sana, cited a military source as saying that a number of surface-to-surface missiles landed around Mezzeh airport at 03:00 (00:00 GMT).

They were reportedly fired by Israeli forces from a position "west of Tal Abu Nada", a mountain in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights known as Mount Avital to Israelis.

The military source said the attack was part of Israel's "desperate attempts" to support "terrorist groups and raise their deteriorating morale", an apparent reference to recent losses on the battlefield by Western-backed rebel forces.

Israel, the source added, would be "held fully responsible for the repercussions".

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based group that monitors the conflict in Syria, reported that explosions were heard in the vicinity of the airport overnight, and that fires had erupted inside the facility afterwards. It could not confirm the source of the blasts.

Last Wednesday, the Syrian authorities said Israeli jets had fired two air-to-surface missiles from Lebanese airspace towards Sabboura, a north-western suburb of Damascus that is located on the main road from the city to the Lebanese border.

The Israeli military also declined to comment on that incident.

Days earlier, it said the Israeli Air Force had killed four militants linked to so-called Islamic State in the Syrian-controlled Golan Heights, after they opened fire on a patrol on Israeli-occupied territory.

Too little, too late- the Assad regime will prevail, and is in the process of doing so.

How on earth does Israel believe that it is helping it's own cause, or the cause of regional stability in general, by taking this sort of unprovoked military action against a regime (Bashar Assad) that has never undertaken any aggressive military action against Israel.

It seems to me, all it wants is chaos and destruction for the sake of it. One hopes it will never be visited upon your own country.

They want Syria to cease to exist ,they deny the right to Syrias existence , they want all Syrians destroyed, they are Anti Syrmatic in their hatred of Syria.
    Above,
Is how it would have been reported if The opposite side had sent over fireworks that had gone astray and landed in Israel.

Wrong thread, ENT. This one is about "'Israel missiles' hit Damascus". Damascus and Aleppo, not same same cities, na. (Unless you think Israeli missiles hitting Damascus had something to do with males missing in Aleppo, in which case carry on. )

    This often helps to deconstruct

Syria conflict: 'Israel missiles' hit Damascus military airport is hardly on front pages , imagine the reverse and the reaction and you see who wags the dog

Israel conflict: 'Syrian missiles' hit Jerusalem military airport

As Wasabi said, if it was the other way around, the reports would be about Lebanon desiring an end to the state of Israel, terrorists, and general Muslim nastiness.

    I did, here's the explanation

That second paragraph shows that because some Lebanese residents support Assad and Assad supported them ten years ago when Obama was inaugurated, the world was watching Obama and Israel used this cover ( diverted attention) to attack Sharpville civilians.

So Sharpville residents where given moral support by Assad, and in revenge Israel then created ISIS to destroy Assad.

Iran (Shi'a) supports Syria. Syria (Shi'a) supports Hizbollah. Hizbollah (Shi'a) hate the four by twos.

Nothing to see here, move along now.

We have to accept that Assad will win in Syria – and the West should be ashamed of how we drew the conflict out

There will be claims, in the aftermath, that the anti-Assad opposition was betrayed by its Western backers, and accusations of 'appeasement' – but the truth is that the opposition to Assad was always too fractious to complete the task it set out to do

The West should be ashamed that it gave in to Putin, and Putin should rot in hell for backing a murderer.

If Assad had fucked off to Iran, then we'd have a Sunni and a Shi'a country, the Sunni in Iraq could simply have swapped places with the Shi'a in Syria, and a lot less people would be dead.

The Syrian people will never accept Shi'a rule again. There will be terrorism in Syria from now until doomsday.

If I were Israel, I would just sit back and watch the sparks fly around me while it is muslim against muslim. They just need to sit back and stay out of it for now.

They will. What they don't want is Hizbollah lobbing a few missiles into Israel then blaming it on Syrian rebels trying to drag Israel into the war.

Assad won't do jack shit about a surgical Israeli strike, he knows what they hit.

I would say that was the plan from the beginning. Notice how Russia is keeping calm.
Laying fuses in the ME and watching the fireworks is a Mossad specialty.

Good idea, don't need to get involved, just let the alawalahs knock themselves out, they're good at that.
