876 Hate Incidents Reported in 10 Days Following Trump's Election

Nearly 900 reports of harassment, intimidation, racial slurs, and other hateful incidents were recorded in the 10 days after the U.S. presidential election, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) said Tuesday.

Many of the harassers documented in the incidents invoked President-elect Donald Trump's name, according to the report "Ten Days After: Harassment and Intimidation in the Aftermath of the Election".

The SPLC said that hate crimes and "lower-level incidents of racial or ethnically charged harassment" are far from new in the United States, but many minorities reported incidents they say they have never before experienced, from a Jewish woman in New York hearing the first anti-Semitic comment in all her 25 years, to an Asian-American woman being told to "go home" by a stranger in Oakland, California.

The report cited multiple victims saying they had "never witnessed anything like this".

Incidents were documented in workplaces, on the street, on public transportation, grocery stores, houses of worship, places of business, in the victims' cars and even outside their own homes.

But perhaps some of the most alarming cases happened in schools - with children as young as 12 being told by classmates that they would be deported or killed. "Build a wall" was repeatedly chanted in one cafeteria in Washington state.

One African-American 12-year-old was approached by a boy who said "Now that Trump is president, I'm going to shoot you and all the blacks I can find," according to her mother.

Anti-immigrant incidents made up the largest proportion of the 867 reported, with anti-black incidents coming in second.

Twenty-three of the hate incidents reported were against Trump supporters or members of his campaign.

The report is the culmination of incidents recounted to the SPLC in response to its "report hate" campaign in the wake of the election of Trump, who touted anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant rhetoric throughout his campaign. U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch also called on Americans to report incidents of hate after the election.

"We need you to continue to report these incidents to local law enforcement, as well as the Justice Department, so that our career investigators and prosecutors can take action to defend your rights," she said in a video statement on hate crimes in the United States.

Her statement followed the release of the FBI's report on 2015 hate crime statistics, which showed an increase in hateful incidents long before the election of Donald Trump.

Hate crimes against minorities rose 7 percent in the United States last year, the FBI reported last week, with incidents targeting Muslims jumping 67 percent.

Hate crimes escalated to 5,850 from 5,479 last year, according to the bureau's latest data.

    Hate crime complaints 2016 (aprox figures);

UK 1,863 complaints per 63 million pop. =1 per 33,815 pop. in last year, post Brexit win.

USA 5,850 complaints per 324 million pop. = 1 per 55,385 pop. in last year, post Trump win.

No big deal, considering that the majority of those "hate crimes" are no more than name calling.

As a white-man, go live in some 3rd world country and taste real hate crime, including social, legal and religious discrimination, verbal, sexual and physical abuse along with deliberately doubled priced goods and services.

Plenty of that b*llsh*t in Thailand.

In a nation of 320+ million?

How many of hate "incidents" were black on other ethnic groups? On gays?

How many "incidents" before the election?

What is the definition of "harrassment?"

    More bullshit.

The weepy waily PC brigade ignore the fact that most so called "hate crimes" are unreported verbal abuse aimed by 3rd world types at anybody not of their miserable cultures, colour and ethnicity.

Try living in a shithole like Bangladesh for instance, the majority of the populace hates everyone, including themselves, and tough titties if you dare complain about it.

    Wazup Hum?

Can't bury yer head in the sand deep enough?

There's a whole world going on outside of yer precious US socio-political mess.

PS. Population of Bangladesh is around 160 million, nearly triple UK's and half of USA's, with more hate crime going on there than most countries.

America doesn't have a hate crime "problem", it's all political spin from the losers,....Clinton et al.

^Morris Dees is scum...scum needs smearing.

    Dear Dean Randall:

Thank you very much for the invitation to speak at the law school’s commencement in May. I am honored by the invitation, but regret that I am not able to accept it due to other commitments at that time.

I also received the law school’s invitation to the presentation of the “Morris Dees Justice Award,” which you also mentioned in your letter as one of the “great things” happening at the law school. I decline that invitation for another reason. Morris Dees is a con man and fraud, as I and others, such as U.S. Circuit Judge Cecil Poole, have observed and as has been documented by John Egerton, Harper’s, the Montgomery Advertiser in its “Charity of Riches” series, and others.

The positive contributions Dees has made to justice–most undertaken based upon calculations as to their publicity and fund raising potential–are far overshadowed by what Harper’s described as his “flagrantly misleading” solicitations for money. He has raised millions upon millions of dollars with various schemes, never mentioning that he does not need the money because he has $175 million and two “poverty palace” buildings in Montgomery. He has taken advantage of naive, well-meaning people–some of moderate or low incomes–who believe his pitches and give to his $175-million operation. He has spent most of what they have sent him to raise still more millions, pay high salaries, and promote himself. Because he spends so much on fund raising, his operation spends $30 million a year to accomplish less than what many other organizations accomplish on shoestring budgets.

The award does not recognize the work of others by associating them with Dees; it promotes Dees by associating him with the honorees. Both the law school and Skadden are diminished by being a part of another Dees scam.

Again, thank you for the invitation to participate in your commencement. I wish you and the law school the very best.

    Sincerely,
    Stephen B. Bright
