Not when it comes to Somalia...I've some history.

This could all be really just a nutter, not enough details yet, but when I see Somalia it makes me wonder...most of them make no effort to fit in...for Christs sake I hope I'm wrong, but it looks like this guy had won the lottery anyway "Norway" social for ever.

&, from working with Indians in Oman, educated Indians, many with PhDs, it became apparent how rape culture was common and accepted by many in India. I had some massive arguments with Indians who just casually threw into conversations comments like: "if that girl had just laid back and enjoyed the rape, she'd not have been killed; her fault." Rape and abuse of women/children is terrible prevalent throughout the ME, South Asia and SE Asia. Pakistan is obviously a bit of a nightmare in that respect, but they are not alone.

I like most of your posts, but this one raises a question (that I hope you'll take in your stride).
Why would you destroy something that you don't want so as to deliberately deprive someone of it's usefulness to them? It was no skin off your nose if he used or sold it, and I guess whoever bought it would have gotten it at a discount, so that's another person deprived. My mum would have done what you did. I wouldn't have.

To me it's like keeping your pay-and-display parking ticket that still has an hour on it rather than give it to the bloke that's about to park in the spot you're vacating.

When I was a kid in the 60's and the family went to a social event, when the men met and started chatting one of the first questions was " Where where you in the war"
That opened up the chat, nearly every male had been somewhere in the war, and they wanted to tell others about it.
So I grew up in a society full of war veterans , the war had affected some of them, but overall it was safe for women and children.

Regarding the parking ticket, it's similar, but a bit different. That space has been sold already for an hour, so I'd probably give my ticket to somebody else - as the space has already been paid for. In this case, was the Somali guy born in Norway then? That's what 'Somali decent' implies. I used to argue this years ago back in the UK: bringing folks into the UK who were bought up in war zones was a terrible idea. Just like sending soldiers around the world into war zones then bringing them back to the UK and kicking them out of the army was always gonna be a disaster too. I don't know the details of this case, but in general terms, have ex-soldiers and folks from war zones strolling around the UK is just disasters waiting to happen; and most folks who've spend time in war zones must suffer mental distress that affects their 'normal' life. Thus, when is the UK gonna stop going around the world warring and stop taking refugees from war zones in???

Increasingly, I don't think we do have a duty to help these refugees; I don't want anybody from a war zone brought into the UK. But, we have a duty not to invade their country, cause war and generally make people's lives in other parts of the globe shite which we are constantly doing...
