Alligator drags 2 year old boy into water near Orlando Disney resort

Florida police are searching for a two-year-old boy who was dragged into water by an alligator near a Disney resort.
The boy was on the shoreline of the Seven Seas Lagoon by the Disney Grand Floridian Resort and Spa in Orlando when he was dragged away late on Tuesday, officials said.
The boy's father entered the water and tried in vain to grab him from the alligator, Sheriff Jerry Demings said.

I had a friend post on Facebook today, thats where i learned of this. He said he was shocked to see an alligator so close when he went to Disney World. He even reported the sighting to his driver and was told they only get rid of the alligators when they get to a size where they are classed as a danger

Alligators are all over the place in Florida. It's not often they come after people. Terrible that happened to a child.

This video of a huge gator was going around a couple of weeks ago.

Sadly not this time with an adventurous little boy. My heart goes out.

A sad situation. With all the tourists unfamiliar with the area you would think the resort would educate people of the dangers of alligators in and out of the water. The locals know better, too bad the dad was not thinking having a small child near the waters edge.

The gf and I went on an airboat ride through the Florida everglades in January. Alligators all over the place. Also during our tour of NASA there were plenty in and around the water. The bus driver told a story of how a woman that had a convertible car top had one in her car after working her shift. I didn't see it myself but why would he lie though it is hard to believe and makes for an odd tail. RIP little one, you know papa won't.

Bloody muslim alligators...got wind of last week-end and didn't want to be out done. The alligator was a muslim unless you can give irrefuatble evidence to the contrary...

I stayed at a golf club hotel when working in Tampa bay back in the early 90's. One afternoon an elderly gentleman went missing on the course...alligator in the lake decided on a quick snack. Everyone knew about the reptile being in the lake but just ignored the danger...not even a warning sign. Strange but true....

My heart goes out to the parents who must be writhing in grief and guilt. There is nothing more precious than a two year old child. At least it looks like the child was drowned by the gator instead of being devoured.

They found the boy intact (he drowned, but wasn't eaten) close to where he was taken. Though many people will put the blame on them, I can't imagine how devastated his parents are, as they witnessed the attack and tried to save their son.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Poorly expressed by me. My point was gators usually lurk near the shore in the early evening hours hoping for critters to come down to the waterhole to drink under the cover of darkness. Early morning and early evening are when they are on the prowl.

That's basically what an Alligator specialist said on Fuxx Noos this morning. The Florida Wildlife Dept only act when they have an incident. Additionally apparently theses apex predators are in action everyday but as it is normally peoples pets that get snatched it is not widely reported.

Folks who reside in gator or croc areas of certain countries know...whether in the Americas, Australia , SE Asia or Africa. Sadly most visitors may not be aware or have not been informed of the risks (or they missed the warning sign).

I see perhaps one hellatious lawsuit brewing...Man, if it were my child I would've fought that fooking gator tooth and nail...Easy to say, I know, but it seems he was so close to the beast...I'd go crazy to get my kid back or die trying...

    What a devastating incident...

^I'm pretty sure the Dad was in there fighting it to the best of his ability. He was cut up in the process. Adult gators are powerful beasts. And they're in their environment.

Dad's efforts are probably why the kid was found drowned, but not eaten.
