EU Unveils Plans to Curb Migration to Europe

The European Union unveiled plans Tuesday for sealing agreements with African and Middle East countries in another effort to curb migration to Europe.

The so-called “compacts” would consist of making EU development aid and trade ties with certain countries conditional on their cooperation to persuade refugees to stay close to home and to discourage people looking for jobs in Europe.

Speaking at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, European Commission Vice President Frans Timmermans told lawmakers that the new partnership agreements would combine funds to strengthen border control, accelerate asylum procedures and to enhance counter-smuggling capacities, in addition to promoting development, investment and trade.

"We propose to use a mix of positive and negative incentives to reward those third countries willing to cooperate effectively with us, and to ensure that there are consequences for those who do not. This includes using our development of trade policies to create leverage."

The plan envisages spending $9 billion in development aid and other assistance over the next five years.

The first counties targeted are Jordan and Lebanon, which together with Turkey host the largest number of Syrian refugees. The commission also said it wants to work towards similar agreements in Africa with Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Mali and Ethiopia.

The EU's latest move is part of the group’s longer-term strategy to deal with the root causes of migration as the 28-nation bloc is struggling to manage its biggest refugee crisis since World War II.

It's rather late now, the EU has shown itself to be wanting and a failure in this area, so now panic has set in as Britain prepares to leave, and the other countries pissed off citizens will also want to follow the Great Britain EU exit.

I slightly differ there BB although its well over half way there thanks to you know who ,however for us in the UK there is a way out of this fucking mess and it would appear that others are waking up to that simple fact ,the Brexit knockers are just guessing and agreeing with Merkel's poodle Camoron as to what our future is, sadly there is no guess work involved in the Immigration problem cos its here right now and the evidence is its only going to get worse ,however for us in the UK there is a ray of hope , this video is worth watching and to the brexit knockers my sincere apologies for having the sheer audacity to think different than you
