New British Newspaper Closes After 10 Weeks

A British newspaper that pledged to prove that print news can survive in the online age has announced it is shutting down, just weeks after it began publishing.

Britain's The New Day, launched February 29 as the nation's first national daily newspaper in 30 years, announced Thursday that its last issue will be May 6. The Trinity Mirror Group, which owns the paper, said its performance had been "disappointing" and that circulation in its ten weeks on the newsstands had failed to meet expectations.

Expectations for the paper included sales of 200,000 copies per day, but soon after it launched, circulation fell as low as 30,000 copies per day.

The Trinity Mirror Group saw its stock market shares slump to a three-year low on Wednesday. The closure was announced on Thursday.

In the era that newspapers/print magazines struggle to stay afloat -

General growing cost to continue a printed edition
    Less subscribers/readers
    Increased online competitors

Certainly of the last decade or two, hundreds of hardcopy newspapers, magazines, journal, and periodicals have closed their doors for good or switched over permanently to an online edition.

How many times on here and other internet sites do you see something posted, then a few days later you are reading a U.k national paper, and low and behold the item you saw on the Internet is now in print.

The key phrase was "The Daily Mirror" - the paper of planks... I once picked up a copy, and had to wash my hands after, it was so full of shit.
It's basically the Guardian for those with a reading age of 7.

You can't mask a car paint lob with a tablet!

Can't leave a Kindle on a beach chair and go for a swim!
