China condemns US human rights record

China slammed the US for its human rights record on Thursday, state media said, denouncing it for police brutality and civil rights violations a day after Washington criticised Beijing's own performance.

In a report sourced mainly from US media, China said "the US government refuses to hold up a mirror to look at itself, it has to be done with other people's help", according to the official Xinhua news agency.

The document is released each year by China the day after the US State Department issues its annual global human rights report.

Beijing does not release rights reports on other countries.

China's foreign ministry also condemned the US report at a regular press briefing, saying other nations should not comment on China's affairs.

"No country should use human rights issues to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries," Lu Kang, a ministry spokesman, said.

Unlike China, the US is a multiparty democracy but the report decried the role of money in American politics and gun violence as human rights violations.

The Chinese Communist Party has repeatedly imprisoned those who openly challenge its right to rule or have protested publicly.

Thursday's document, released by China's State Council, or cabinet, largely cited US media websites, including Al Jazeera America and USA Today.

"The frequent occurrence of shooting incidents was the deepest impression left to the world concerning the United States in 2015," Xinhua cited the document as saying.

Washington's own report on Wednesday said China saw the repression and coercion of civil and political rights activists "markedly increase" last year, highlighting in particular a "severe" crackdown on lawyers defending citizens in sensitive cases.

It also noted Beijing's continued repression of ethnic Uighurs and Tibetans.

Human rights are a longstanding source of tensions between China and the US, which imposed sanctions on Beijing after the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown on pro-democracy protesters that left hundreds, by some estimates more than 1,000, dead.

China often says that its rapid economic development in recent decades has led to a greater respect for human rights, and that other countries are not entitled to criticise its record.

As I mentioned in another thread, the Chins are masters of deflection.

    Yup, exactly.

And if you look at military interventions since the end of the second world war, the Chinese are angels in comparison to the US.
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

And after that, you can go down the pub.

20+ million dead... a death culture exported to the world.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Yet, no one seems to want to discuss such realities and truths.
The Yanks belong to the Anglo-American good guys club where all is born of goodness and exception, continually pointing an accusing finger at others - less we comprehend their real history/character.

Only Americans that don't want to discuss it, because the truth hurts.

The EU is controlled by NATO, which has a facade "head office" in Belgium, but we all know is controlled by the US.

I would vote to stay in the EU - IF it was democratically controlled by the European nations.

But it isn't, and the US are destroying Europe.

They are TRYING to create this shit (doing a good job too).

The 20+ million headcount by the US is for citizens of other countries.
The US is the number one exporter of death and destruction by a considerable margin.

Ever heard of the Soviet Union and Stalin ? 40-60 millions
Oh I'am sorry ! They only exported death to countries in the world that covered approximately one sixth of the earth's land surface.
The deaths outside of the USSR are not even included

Is the USA the land of opportunity....Of course it is.

Do the USA export death and destruction(Along with others)...of course they do. You would have to be one stupid MF not to realise that.

    So what is your point?

I think given that America seemed to take it's time joining into WW2, letting other countries absorb the main aggressors, and then seized the opportunity to beat it's supposed allies with a stick issuing loans to its supposed allies for WW2, taking advantage of their weakness to cripple them further and shift power from Europe to America, whilst pitching the "selfless allies" thing to the public, the whole "Good ol' US of A" thing rather sticks in the craw; especially since precipitating that shift of power America spent a lot of it's time indulging in geopolitical chess with Russia creating and leaving a series of messes behind, that we are still dealing with.

It's the moral bullshitting that is the problem - America's foreign and military policy is not a about a moral cause to bring freedom to the world; but merely to bring profits to America. America is not really a country, it's a corporation.
Captain America, Superman, etc... omits their regular fee for their derring do.

As for Russia, I don't get the hostility that the western media is trying to stir up; a lot of people have a lot of time for Russia - standing up against vile lefty "values", and dealing with problems like piracy and terrorism swiftly and effectively. I've sat and watched RT and BBC, flitting between the two, and I find the BBC far more propaganderish in the way it reports, and the amount of stuff it fails to report.

America's meddling has gone too far, and threatens Europe, with this latest shit in Libya and Syria, and frankly I would have much more faith in Putin fixing it that Obama. Admittedly, there is an EU influence going on, trying to wade into conflict with Russia, and annex made-up countries like Ukraine, and steal land from Russia.

As for China, no, I don't love them, and we wait to see whether America will stick up for the nations surrounding China. It would be nice to see America kiss and make up properly with Vietnam, by developing a security pact with them - obviously a hot potato, but the best response to China blatently disregarding international law and building on disputed reefs.

The Chinese present a very big problem.

Apparently, 1 in 5 people in the world are Chinese. And there are 5 people in my family, so it must be one of them. It's either my mum or my dad. Or my older brother Colin. Or my younger brother Ho-Chan-Chu. But I think it's Colin.
