Virgin to use 10 Supersonic Passenger Jets

$5,000 USD for a flight. It's still progress. Interesting story. In our lifetimes we may see shorter distances that are more affordable.

Sir Richard Branson set to usher in new era of 'affordable' supersonic flights with 'mini Concorde'

The airline tycoon has confirmed that Virgin has options to buy 10 of the recently revealed supersonic Boom jets

They will reach 1,451mph - 100mph faster than Concorde - and travel from New York to London in 3.5 hours

The Boom jet, designed for 40 passengers, is being built in Colorado by former Amazon executive Blake Scholl

I rather think that in this day and age, ZOOM jet would be preferable to BOOM jet.

Who made the headline? Kind of a bunch of bullshit. They are hoping to have a 1/3 scale model up and flying by the end of 2017. No idea when the first finished prototype could be flown.

Branson took an "option" on 10 planes which simply means he is showing interest.

Seems like there would have to be many very specialized engineering logistics to make such an aircraft feasible.

I wonder if Rolls Royce or GE will build the engines?

How long to fly from D.C. to Bangkok? Not the usual 23 hours i'd hope. I can't wait to see a better option, doubt it will happen in my lifetime not that I could afford it anyway it would probably cost $30,000.

    No, not $30,000.

    London - NYC is $5.

Anyway, I lived in DC. Love Annapolis.

    How is Maryland treating you?

Well, going to a museum to see the future - a supersonic passenger jet, is a bit shit in fairness.

Of course, the previous one only carried 128 passengers, flew for 27 years and was designed using paper and pencils, so there's nothing for modern day aeronautic engineers to be ashamed about.

I think it was Clarkson that said he lived in Fulham for 20 years and never once caught the second item on the 6 O'clock news, as he'd be looking out the window to see the 6pm flight to NY.

Designed and engineered using paper and pencils nearly half a Century ago and the fokers nowadays are trying to boast about not even catching up... Fok that innit.

Small world! Middleton's is still going. It's spring here now and I love to see everything come back to life after a long cold winter.

How long has it been since you were here last? not to many changes around here, except more people just like everywhere else.

My Grandfather and my dad went to Middleton's in the 1970s. I went there a few times in the 90s.

It's been about 18 years since I was in Annapolis and Middleton's.

    I miss it.

More bullshit from a bunch of techno nerds milking seed money from corporate spunk bubblers with way too much money from untaxed profits to burn.

Building a fucking toy model scaled down version is just so lame. It cost UK & France 1 billion to develop Concorde in the 1970s. Just to put it on the map for you.

Since the earth moves through space at 67,000 miles an hour, I can't understand why they can't just get off at one point, and get back on when the destination arrives.

OK granted you can only do it in one direction, but it's a start.

Where he learned all this stock market bait and switch-like stuff.

Maybe he will be buying Tupolev Concordski technology?

    Virgin goes for publicity again.
