Paul Daniels returns home for his final days

Magician Paul Daniels decided to return home to see out his final days after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour, his son has said.

Martin Daniels told the Sunday Mirror doctors had not said how much time the 77-year-old might have and there was "no treatment which can help him".

He said his father "knows things are not in his hands now and we are living in the knowledge every day is a bonus".

The entertainer was diagnosed with the tumour two weeks ago.
Martin said his father had initially been taken to hospital after a fall at his home, where it was suspected he had suffered a stroke. However, after a scan the brain tumour was discovered.

"It was devastating for all of us," he said. "The doctors said the tumour was growing rapidly and could not be cured."

He added that Paul was offered radiotherapy but turned it down when he was told there was no chance it would extend his life.

    'Unbearably difficult'

"Dad's not going to get any better. Doctors haven't said how many weeks or months he might have - and we haven't asked," Martin said.

"It is unbearably difficult. He has said before 'When it's your time it's your time' and that's how he is trying to face up to things."

Martin, who is also a magician, said following the diagnosis his father made the decision to return to his home in Berkshire, where his wife, Debbie, has been by his side.

"He's happy there - some days he is tired and spends most of his time in bed dozing. But even then he is happy," he said, adding Paul was "lucid" and the family were moved by the support from fans.

"We are very grateful and all of us are genuinely touched. It is giving us tremendous strength at what is a very difficult time."

Paul Daniels' TV career began with an appearance on talent series Opportunity Knocks in 1970.

He went on to front the BBC's Paul Daniels Magic Show, which ran for 15 years, and became one of the biggest stars on British TV.

Paul can perform a magic trick, just grab the brain tumour and pull it out, just as he does with a hat , pulling rabbits out.

an untreatable brain tumour is one of the crueller ends devised for us humans.

as the tumour spreads it affects the various control centres of the brain in a seemingly random and unpredictable progression until the end eventually comes.

my thai brother in law was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, gbm, and it took 18months to finish him off, he was only 54 and despite the valiant efforts of the medics it was awful to watch his terror and despair as the deteriorations progressed from speech slurring to death, taking in paralysis, double incontinence, blindness, loss of speech and eventual coma along the way.

it was a blessing when he finally stopped breathing.

if ever there was a case for assisted suicide, then untreatable malignant brain tumours would be it.

i hope paul daniels does not suffer too much and the end comes quick, both for his sake and the familys sake.

any doctor worth his salt would quietly leave a bottle of morphine by the bedside.

sad to hear, I really liked the Paul Daniels show when I was a kid. Hoping for it to be as painless as possible for him.

    That's magic!

Sadly this place is not progressive enough for a legal dignified death to ever be allowed.

Sad way for both your brother in law and the comedian to die.

Yes, very sad way to go.

Although Paul Daniels is not actually dead yet...

...but could go at any minute.

My mate used to live next door to Debbie when she was living at home, before she was officially going out with Paul.

We were often seen jumping the fence to nick the sparkly undies.

That or nearly ramming the Mk 4 Cortina in to his Farrari parked up outside, coming home pissed on a Friday night.

Ironically an ex-workmate of mine just (a few days ago) collapsed in fits and was diagnosed with an inoperable tumour. He's terminal.

They offered him chemo and radio which he's taken for the sole purpose of getting enough time to get his affairs in order.

    Very sad.

Fuck you cancer, up the arse with a big black spiked dildo.

A short arsed magician gets 24 posts, so far. SAS man dies after doing more for his country than Paul Daniels ever did and not one RIP. What does one have to do to get recognition? https://teakdoor.com/world-news/16223...dies-aged.html (Adventurer and former SAS legend dies aged 70)
