Newlyweds crowdfund to help save puppy they adopted from Thailand on their honeymoon

A pair of Brisbane newlyweds who encountered a sick and injured puppy while on their honeymoon in Thailand are crowd-funding to bring the pup back to full health.

Nicole Marchment and Darren Budini found Ozzie, a stray, abandoned on a street on the island Koh Chang after he’d been hit by a scooter.

After trying to find him an adoptive family in Thailand, the couple decided to send Ozzie to the US so he could be treated for significant medical issues, quarantined and allowed to enter Australia.

Now, the couple has set up a crowdfunding page to finance his treatment in the US, where he remains with friends of the couple, so that dream can be fulfilled.

“Ozzie’s leg and health are still at high risk. Ozzie’s leg is now deformed and twisted from the plate inserted in Thailand. The screws have started to come out and threaten to pierce through his skin,” Ms Marchment wrote on the crowdfunding page.

“Your donation today will help Ozzie with his new life. Big or small donations will get him healthy, rehabilitated and eventually to his new home,” she wrote.

Are there no vetinarians in Thailand ?

and why take him to the US ?

it is relatively easy to take a dog to Australia , just a bit expensive, i got a quote about 6 months ago to take my two mutts too Perth.

Good on them for helping but there was a easier option.

more begging for funds under the guise of crowdfunding.

    it is a ridiculous scenario.

there is no shortage of competent veterinarians in thailand, its just another example of the "pity porn" that people use to gain sympathy and more to the point, money, from an ever more gullible public swamped by an avalanche of this bilge thanks to twitter, facebook and dumbfuck journo hacks looking for the easiest stories to get printed.

it was all so much simpler when it was just silly nigerians.

I have been looking at importing my two mutts to Australia and it is really bloody simple ! you ring one company and write a cheque !

private import is cheaper but not really that difficult, at least no harder than trying to get common sense out of a thai !
you just have to follow the rules and it takes time.

Your comment comes as no surprise, given your antipathy towards similar efforts to repatriate a stricken Brit in Thailand with no health insurance.

Mind you, raising funds for a dog instead of a human in distress (heaps of desperate humans around needing support and medical attention) is perfectly obscene.

    Private import/export facilitating companies abound.

So do tax consultants/lawyers to facilitate your every fiscal move, nationally and internationally.

    Use them!

Faster and more efficient and cost effective than doing it home-style.

    You betcha!

    What a pair of 15-seconds-of-fame ass-clowns.

I think some of these scrounge-funding 'campaigns' are just folk having a laugh trolling the news media.

The pity angle is wearing thin. They need to start thinking outside the box to keep it fresh.

Please donate to my scrounge-funding campaign. I am starving and I am going to shoot and eat this puppy if you don't send me $1.99 for a cheeseburger.

There is a horse rescue centre on Phuket that is crowd funded by Teakdoor members.
See we are not a heartless bunch.

Yeah was told about 6 months all up the process takes when I was looking into it for my Mother (she wanted to take one of my puppies home).

Dog aint a direct import into OZ, they had to go to Singapore for all the needles and pre quaratine shit.

This was a few years ago though. I guess it could well be easier/quicker/cheaper now.

How much is it costing to fly this dog around the world including a stop in the world's most expensive country for healthcare? I'm thinking hundreds of soi dogs could be helped locally with that money.

    Idiots.

    it is real hard .
here is the exact step by step process.

    1. pick up phone.
    2. ring a bloke.
    3. write him a cheque.
    4. he picks up mutt in Thailand.
    5. drink beer for a few months.
    6. pick up, or have mutt delivered to your home in oz.

    it fuggin that easy !
never said it was quick but.

    Rob
