Indian Man Thought to Be First Ever Killed by Meteorite

NASA says there's no record of anyone being killed by a meteorite before.

A man was killed after being struck by a meteorite in India over the weekend, apparently becoming the first person in recorded history to die in such a manner.

A bus driver, identified as V. Kamaraj, died after suffering severe injuries while he was walking close to the cafeteria at the Bharathidasan Engineering College, where the object hit, according to the Wall Street Journal. Three others were injured in the blast.

“There was a noise like a big explosion,” G. Baskar, principal of the college in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore district, told the newspaper. “It was an abnormal sound that could be heard till at least 3 km [about 2 miles] away.”

Meteorite-caused injuries or deaths are incredibly rare, according to NASA, which said on its website that there is no record “in modern times of any person being killed by a meteorite.” “An individual’s chance of being killed by a meteorite is small, but the risk increases with the size of the impacting comet or asteroid,” NASA said.

Wasn't a direct hit by the sound of it. Imagine that.

I wonder if it was an IED. Did an independent investigation locate the meteor fragments ?

If it really was a meteor I wonder which lottery number he picked prior. I'd play it for awhile.

He obviously didn't curry favour with his God

Statistically, a meteorite was bound to hit either an Indian or a Chinese.

If it had hit a Chinese it would have probably have had to go back for another 1 hour later.

Don't worry, after a few years the black sense of humour will rub off onto you. I had it before and it gets better as the years go by.

You'll be laughing at yourself in about 2000 posts.

And admitting that you did actually laugh at the meteor man's death. Or other odd threads that might tickle your fancy.

Someone should get the numbers of his GPS coordinates where this happened and buy lottery tickets.

Greentea, laughing at the circumstances of someone's death is simply a way of dealing with it, not intentional disrespect unless the presence of his or her relatives.
