Then Toyota started 4x4 production and reliability won over many a colonialist.
Hmm. Interesting that the military including the much lauded US Special forces and Rangers use the Land Rover when ISIS and (chose your favorite rebel group), seem to favour Toyota?

Very rare to see LR in frontline military ops and those that do have been up armoured.
The US has just started the replacement programme for the Hummer, and the UK has been buying special build light armoured patrol vehicles to replace LR for years now.

Just a few of the in service vehicles that have replaced the LR Defender.

    Mastiff - British Army Website

    Foxhound - British Army Website

    Husky - British Army Website

The UK special forces still use a LR version called snatch 2, due to its light weight and maneuverability.

The remaining LR vehicles in MOD use are gradually being phased out and replaced with contract vehicles for training and admin only.

Here is the badass truck replacing the US military's aging Humvees

The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle — the HMMWV, or Humvee — is a stalwart of the battleground. If you asked someone to draw a military truck, they'd almost certainly draw this classic machine, which is almost older than a millennial (1984!) and gained such a pop culture following at one point that civilians started buying them. Arnold Schwarzenegger, in particular, is famous for his undying love of the "Hummer."
But seriously, they're old. The US military has been keen on retiring Humvees for some time, and it has finally awarded the $6.7 billion contract to replace them to Wisconsin-based truck maker Oshkosh, which expects to make about 17,000 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs) over the course of the deal. The JLTVs, which will come in multiple two- and four-seat configurations, aren't just better armored and generally more capable trucks than the ones they're replacing — they also look extraordinarily mean. (I've seen them in person, and I can attest that the meanness is real.)
The big selling point for the JLTV is what Oshkosh calls the "Core1080 Crew Protection System," which includes mine resistance, IED detection, and a lot of bolt-on armor. It's not just about defense, though: optional turret and missile launch units put bite behind the bark. A suspension that can be raised and lowered electronically makes it easier to transport JLTVs to wherever they're needed, but out in the field, it's got 20 inches of wheel travel for insane off-road capability. Oh, and Oshkosh claims it's 70 percent faster than the best tactical wheeled vehicle (TWV) in the market currently

So you are saying the demise of the Defender is 100% because of the Tata ownership ?

If you believe that to be true the silly c u n t here is only you.

Have you ever studied or experienced the take over of companies and the expected rationalisation that occurs? When a company buys another one it purchases many things, factories, plant, experienced people, brand names, patents etc.

TATA bought the company. TATA management, probably before buying it, ran it's eyes over the company and then came up with a plan which they thought was sound. Retiring one model, possibly due to a lack of demand, possibly due to TATA having and acceptable more profitable replacement, is something many companies when bought suffer.

Or is it because too many of it's workforce in the UK have a different religion and who promote a rape a pillage type of life style which is unacceptable?

the defender is (was) a handbuilt vehicle based on a 60 year old design that cost a fortune to produce. to make it compliant with todays safety and emissions regulations would have cost another small fortune. it was not economic to produce it anymore.

icon worshippers will continue to restore them and land rover will continue to support the need for parts, but the thing had outlived its usefulness and will be replaced in a couple of years with a new vehicle more suited to todays needs.

tata had nothing to do with its demise, it was planned long ago. in fact, tata postponed its demise at least twice because of the demand for the vehicle.
