They might be there, but they still can't see inside suitcases and bags.
that's unless they all have xray glasses on.
Let me share something with you,in October I came to Thailand through Manchester i got a swabbed, thought nothing of it.
I got home emptied my laptop bag, and found a bag of mull that had of been swabbed.
Great security.
Most work shifts and work in particular locations around the country. How many would be available for more than a day or two (and be able to travel to Gleneagles)? Few, IMO. Perhaps only officers working in Scotland who have a few days off.
I haven't read all this thread but you seem oblivious to the fact that all UK police forces have armed units which can be summoned when needed. Example in London armed units drive around in patrol cars which look like any other patrol car - you wouldn't the police inside have firearms as they are kept concealed! These police can arm up without authority from a superior. Similar practices have been applied in rural areas after Michael Ryan's shooting spree in Hungerford. The issue is not whether police should carry guns (as said they don't want to), but the effect of cuts.

All very interesting, Jim, but it doesn't get us any closer to knowing how many officers were actually deployed. And anyway, it appears to be somewhat off topic for this thread.
