Woman, 91, Charged With 260,000 Counts Of Accessory To Murder At Auschwitz

A 91-year-old woman has been charged with 260,000 counts of accessory to murder over allegations she was part of the Nazi SS serving in the Auschwitz death camp.

German prosecutors said that the woman, whose named was not disclosed due to the country’s privacy laws, is alleged to have served as a radio operator for the camp commandant from April to July 1944.

This makes her an accessory because her work helped ensure the camp functioned properly, prosecutors argue.

A 94-year-old former SS sergeant at Auschwitz was convicted on the same reasoning earlier this year, according to the Associated Press.

Schleswig-Holstein prosecutors' spokesman Heinz Doellel said that there are no indications the woman is unfit for trial, though a court likely won't decide on whether to proceed with the case until next year.

Earlier this year a 94-year-old former SS officer dubbed the “bookkeeper of Auschwitz” was handed a four-year jail sentence after being found guilty of being an accessory to the murder of 300,000 people.

Oskar Groening was responsible for collecting and examining people’s belongings as they arrived at the death camp, as well as removing and documenting any currency found.

Groening said that he admitted “moral guilt” but insisted that he was not personally responsible for any deaths, describing himself as a “small cog in the wheel” of the Nazi regime.

However, prosecutors said that by helping to ensure the smooth running of the camp, he was an accessory to the killings.

Gotta be cheaper than staying in an old peoples nursing home.

Give it a few more years and they'll have to start exhuming bodies to keep this victim train running.

Does Germany have no sense of shame? Haven't they kissed kosher behinds long enough?

^ quite correct, the people had to participate in the Nazi regime weather they wanted to or not, persecuting these nobodies who were almost certainly ordered to do the jobs they were doing is vindicated and serves no purpose other than keeping the sympathy alive.

If she is 91 today she would have been roughly 15 years old when the war started in 1939 and about 20 when she was working in Auschwitz. I can’t believe that she is being persecuted now for something that she probably had very little control over.

Ridiculous really but I suppose the 'investigators' are all on high salaries and dedicated to keeping them as long as possible.

    Pretty much my thoughts.

Especially when you consider that thanks to Operation Paperclip by the U.S. and similar programs by other countries thousands of Nazi scientists etc. were able to get away.

Yes.... If the Germans had won it could have been a 91 year old American Bomber Pilot from the Dresden Raids that just got 4 years

Wernher Magnus Maximilian, Freiherr von Braun (March 23, 1912 – June 16, 1977) was a German (and later American) aerospace engineer[2] and space architect credited with inventing the V-2 Rocket and the Saturn V, for Nazi Germany and the United States, respectively.[3][4] He was one of the leading figures in the development of rocket technology in Nazi Germany, where he was a member of the Nazi Party and the SS. Following World War II he, as well as about 1500 other scientists, technicians, and engineers, were moved to the United States as part of Operation Paperclip, where he developed the rockets that launched America's first space satellite and first series of moon missions.

Considering this fella and most if not all of 1,500 others (as stated above) drove slave labourers to die in their tens of thousands never faced any charges... ...one wonders why they'd bother with this woman.
