US: 'Proxy War' With Russia Over E. Ukraine Not in World's Interest

The U.S. State Department said Tuesday it was not in the interests of Ukraine or the world to get into a "proxy war" with Russia over eastern Ukraine, a comment suggesting Washington is now shifting away from arming Ukrainian forces.

“Our belief here in the administration, and I would be surprised if others disagree, is that getting into a proxy war with Russia is not anything that's in the interest of Ukraine or in the interest of the international community,” spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters. “And certainly, as we weigh options, we weigh that as one of the factors.”

The Obama adminstratration has not made a final decision on providing Ukraine with lethal aid, and Psaki seemed to have left that option open.

Just let the Russians have the bits they heavily populate.
Ukraine has shown they don't really care about borders and sovereignty by wanting to join the EU

Need to be careful with obomba. What he "says" typically bares little relation to what he actually does. This strikes me a clever little maneuver telling his believers to completely ignore the US regime change in Ukraine waiting for something to happen so he can again scream "Russian Aggression" when the Nazis in Ukraine start attacking civilian cities in the east again.

It's all piss and wind from the EU and NATO: Russia's called their bluff.

Nobody is going to fight a war to preserve the arbitrary borders of a state that never existed in history before 1991, and that is comprised of bits of other countries. Especially not with a country with huge stocks of WMD and hydrocarbons, during a period where a relgious death cult is active and spreading (and could potentially get hold of WMDs from a destabilised Russia), and a period with an emerging and expansionist superpower in China.

The wise thing to do, is to befriend Russia, and have Ukraine partitioned in such a way as to justify the placing of NATO assets along a new frontier with Russia to passively ensure that MAD is restored, and no repeat of 1930s appeasement takes place.

The West needs Russia to deal with the Islamists and to deal with China, who are a far bigger threat because of their economic influence, economic influence that Russia doesn't have.

If I was PM of the UK, I'd be signing a similar and overlapping NATO-style treaty with Russia (after leaving the EU and rejoining EFTA), and getting as much British economic tentacles into Russia as possible to be able to wag that dog at every other Security Council member. British expertise leveraged on Russia's assets - even including Russia's Space agency, would be better for us than being dragged into the EU and US's incompetent war gaming.

P.S.: I can't wait for Greece to leave the EU and take its begging bowl to Russia... now that will be funny.
