Egypt Says Will Respond to IS Beheading of Hostages

Relatives of 27 Egyptian Coptic Christian workers who were kidnapped in the Libyan city of Sirte, take part in a protest to call for their release, in Cairo, February 13, 2015.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi said Egypt reserved the right to respond to the Islamic State group's beheading of 21 Egyptian Christians in Libya.

In a televised address late Sunday, Sissi said Egypt would choose the "necessary means and timing to avenge the criminal killings."

Sissi's remakrs come in repose to an online video that purports to show militants of the Islamic State group beheading 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians kidnapped in Libya.

The video, released late Sunday, shows several men in orange jumpsuits being led along a beach, each accompanied by a masked militant. The men are made to kneel and one militant addresses the camera in English before the men are simultaneously beheaded.

A spokesman for Egypt's Coptic Church was quoted by several media outlets as saying that 21 Egyptian Christians believed to be held by Islamic State were dead.

News of the killings first broke on social media on Feb. 12, but the Egyptian government did not comment.

A caption reads: "The people of the cross, followers of the hostile Egyptian church."

The video follows another from the extremist group that showed the immolation death of a Jordanian pilot shot down over Syria and videos showing the execution of two Japanese hostages.

After the Islamic State released photos of the kidnapped Coptic Christians last week, Egypt offered to evacuate thousands of its citizens from Libya.

So the "Islamic State" has advanced to Libya now? Or are they just a 'franchise' or 'affiliate' group there?

Egypt has started airstrikes, so IS is now being attacked by basically the entire Arab/Muzzie world and by both Sunni and Shia.
That's quite the accomplishment, even Israel couldn't manage that....

Wonder where they get all the orange jumpsuites from???

Does seem that the Mid east is generally against them, millions of troops, Iraq, trained and armed by the west, western air support etc.
Yet they are holding their own, winning some and have brought their fight to the cities of the EU and OZ.
Time for nukes or surrender, or perhaps the sheep are being feed a line, a bunch of fanatics have taken on the world and with all the military might aligned against them, they continue on to bigger and better things.

These guys aren't hiding in caves, plotting terrorist attacks, they out and about in a big open desert, running oil rigs, controlling cities, fighting soldiers with air support and tanks an army of occupation no less.
    Something is not right.

The only troops fighting them are Kurds and a few isolated militias. They don't have tanks or heavy weapons.
The Iraqi army is a ghost hiding in it's bases. Most of the troops pay their officers to mark them present and stay home.

^ Isn't the Syrian army fighting them? Isn't the USA (and some other countries) bombing them from the air?

^^ The IS in Syria/Iraq are trying to forge a state, Jim, so I believe they have organised themselves like a state, including an army.

N99, CNN report Iraqi troops on the outskirts of Mosul, preparing to retake the city, Syrian troops are fighting, both have tanks and air support.
6,000 bombs dropped on Mosul alone, if armies can't take on ISIS without western support and troops, on the ground [small numbers] there is no hope of winning.

How many soldiers does ISIS have, believe Iraq has about 1 million police and troops, western trained and armed, tanks, artillery and air support, yet they put on a better show under Saddam.

For all the money being spent, they could hire 50,000 mercenaries and the show would be over.
Think it's more about keeping the game going, then defeating ISIS.

Just my opinion, sounds more like the movie wag the dog.

As long as they're underwritten by those contradictory "underground" sources - the sky's the limit.

You are not appreciating that the towns, facilities and cities, like Mosul, are full of Iraqi citizens. There are no IS citizens who can be shelled or carpet bombed with impunity. Heavy weapon use fo the Iraqis comes at high cost, while it costs IS nothing.

This is the day of smart bombs, not carpet bombing, the good guys should have cut off ISIS supplies and re enforcement's.

[A CIA assessment puts the number of ISIS fighters at possibly more than three times the previous estimates.

The terror group that calls itself the Islamic State "can muster between 20,000 and 31,500 fighters across Iraq and Syria," a CIA spokesman told CNN on Thursday.

Analysts and U.S. officials initially estimated there were as many as 10,000 fighters, including those who were freed from prisons by ISIS, and Sunni loyalists who have joined the fight as the group advanced across Iraq.

"This new total reflects an increase in members because of stronger recruitment since June following battlefield successes and the declaration of a caliphate, greater battlefield activity and additional intelligence," the spokesman said.]

So how many ISIS guys holding off an army, are the allies dropping bombs on camels.
Even Iraq must have special forces who can go in at night, take up observation positions and call in artillery on ISIS defense posts.
Drones would have 24/7 eyes in the sky, ISIS guys should not be able to drive truck around.
    No ones really trying.

So tell me this, conciliation forces, high tech well trained and supplied came under attack from rebels daily.
ISIS forces, poorly trained, driving round in pickups can take cities with ease, why aren't they getting hit by road side bombs, sniper fire.
Can only be 2 reasons 1/ the population support them. 2/ we aren't being feed the truth.

Remember those same CIA are the ones that are telling the world what's happening and creating the stories.
ISIS is the occupying force, just as we were once, roll reversal, with a lot less fire power and apparently doing a better job.

Isn't it obvious that either they don't have the will to resist their brothers in islam.... or they're just not that smart.
