Copenhagen free speech debate shooting: One dead

Denmark is on high alert after a gunman in Copenhagen killed one person and injured three others at a debate on blasphemy and free speech attended by a controversial Swedish cartoonist.
Several dozen shots were fired at the seminar and a manhunt is now under way.

Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt described it as a "politically motivated" act of terrorism.

Cartoonist Lars Vilks, who has faced death threats over his caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, was unhurt.

Police initially believed there had been two suspects, but later said they were searching for a lone gunman.

They released a photograph showing the alleged attacker apparently wearing a purple balaclava and thick puffer jacket.
The three injured were police officers.

An audio recording, obtained exclusively by the BBC, revealed the moments leading up to the attack.

One of the speakers at the debate, which took place at a cafe and concerned the limits of free speech, is suddenly interrupted by a barrage of gunshots.
Eyewitness Niels Ivar Larsen, speaking to the Associated Press news agency, said: "I heard someone firing with an automatic weapon and someone shouting.

"Police returned fire and I hid behind the bar."
The French ambassador, Francois Zimeray, was also present during the attack.

Shortly after the shooting, a message appeared on his Twitter feed saying he was still alive.

Emergency services gather at the scene following the attack

The area around the venue is under lockdown, reports the BBC's Malcolm Brabant, and police have erected cordons as they search a nearby park.
Strict security The debate was described on a personal website of Lars Vilks as a talk on whether any limits should be placed on artistic expression or freedom of speech.

Eyewitness Dennis Myhoff-Brink told BBC Radio 4's PM programme: "We heard...20 or 30 shots...and a person yelling something in Arabic"

A description of the event asked whether artists could "dare" to be blasphemous in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo terror attacks by Islamist gunmen in Paris last month.
In an indication of the threat faced by the cartoonist, a note was included on the website saying there was always "strict security" whenever he spoke in public.

An organiser of Saturday's event, Helle Merete Brix, told BBC World TV it was being guarded by armed police and security agents from the Danish intelligence service, as well as Mr Vilks' own bodyguards.
She said she clearly considered the incident an attack on Mr Vilk.
Forensic police officers work at the scene

Police are guarding the area near the attack

Lars Vilks stoked controversy in 2007 by drawing pictures of the Prophet Muhammad dressed as a dog.

In 2010 two brothers tried to burn down the cartoonist's house in southern Sweden and were imprisoned for attempted arson.

Lars Vilks: A controversial career June 1946: born in Helsingborg, Sweden
2007: Stoked controversy when he drew a series of cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad as a dog which were published in a number of Swedish papers
Sept 2007: $100,000 bounty placed on his head by then leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq
March 2010: Seven Irish citizens arrested over separate plots to kill Vilks: US woman Colleen LaRose, aka Jihad Jane, also arrested and later jailed for 10 years for conspiracy to commit murder
May 2010: Assaulted by Muslim protesters during a lecture about free speech at Uppsala University, Sweden
Sept 2011: Three men arrested in Gothenburg, Sweden, for plotting to kill Vilks
March 2013: Placed on "most wanted" list By al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula
Feb 2015: Gunmen attack event on blasphemy, art and freedom of expression organised by Vilks at the Krudttoenden café in Copenhagen, Denmark

Satirists targeting Islam have been in the spotlight since the January attacks in France, when 17 people were killed in separate incidents over a three-day period.

French President Francois Hollande said Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve would visit the Danish capital as soon as possible.
A message from the president's official Twitter feed said Mr Hollande expressed his solidarity with Denmark's prime minister.
Cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad were published by a Danish newspaper in 2005, sparking deadly riots in some Muslim countries.

Yes, a mostly peaceful shooting spree...

1 dead in Denmark in attack on artist who drew Mohammed

The religion of perpetual outrage has claimed another victim. Of course their intermediate goal is the destruction of free speech, followed by the destruction of the West.

But....but....we must all stand up and defend the right of the faithful to defend the prophet from the mocking and ridicule of those who support free speech, even if it means shooting up the odd Café or magazine office. It's the proper liberal peace activist thing to do.....

Copenhagen hit by second deadly shooting

A shooting near a synagogue in Copenhagen has left one person dead and two injured, hours after a deadly attack at a cafe in the city.

In the second shooting one person died after being shot in the head, and two police officers were wounded. The attacker is believed to have fled.

Earlier, a gunman killed one person and injured three at a free speech debate attended by a Swedish cartoonist.
It is not clear if the two shootings are connected.

The second shooting took place on Krystalgade street, about 5km (three miles) from the scene of the first attack.

Danish police were were quoted by the AFP news agency as saying the perpetrator had fled on foot. The man who died was a civilian, while two police officers suffered injuries to their arms and legs, police said.
Barrage of gunshots The BBC's Malcolm Brabant reports from Copenhagen that the Danish capital has been abuzz with sirens and helicopters, amid fears that other attacks could be imminent.

Police have warned residents that it is not safe to be in the city centre. They launched a massive manhunt after the first shooting.

An audio recording, obtained exclusively by the BBC, revealed the moments leading up to the attack.

An audio recording captured the moment the gunmen struck in the first attack (listeners may find content distressing)

One of the speakers at the debate, which took place at a cafe and concerned the limits of free speech, is suddenly interrupted by a barrage of gunshots.
Speaking to the BBC, eyewitness Dennis Myhoff-Brink said: "People were trying to get to the doors, trying to get out of the room, hiding between or behind the tables and chairs, and some people were running out into the street."

Officials said the gunman made his getaway by car, and a black Volkswagen Polo was later found abandoned a short distance away from the scene, police said.

Police released photographs showing the alleged attacker apparently wearing a purple balaclava and thick puffer jacket.

Copenhagen is now on high alert, as the manhunt continues

Police released this picture of the alleged gunmen in the first shooting
Police spokesman Allan Wadsworth-Hansen said the first shooting was likely terror-related and "it makes a perfect sense to investigate it [the second shooting] down the same route".

Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt described the first attack as a "politically motivated" act of terrorism.

Blasphemy debate Cartoonist Lars Vilks, who has faced death threats over his caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, said he believed he was the intended target of the attack. He was unhurt.

The French ambassador, Francois Zimeray, was also present during the attack.

A description of the debate at the cafe asked whether artists could "dare" to be blasphemous in the wake of attacks by Islamist gunmen in Paris last month against satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

In the French attacks, two gunmen opened fire at Charlie Hebdo's office, shooting dead 12 people. Two days later, a suspected accomplice of the militants took hostages at a Jewish shop, killing four of them.
All three attackers were eventually shot dead by police and security services.

Good tactic by ISIS, no need for big bombing campaigns, train up a few 1,000 western Muslims in the Mid east, others will follow.
Send one or 2 out every week to hit a city, gun or knives, kill a few, run, kill again, until it's end.
Whole city comes to a stand still, world watches, other Muslims take up the cause.

Next heavily armed police, soldiers on patrol, hand guns not much good against AK 47s and snipers.
Public will demand it, police state needed to protect us, winner is.

German parade off over terror threat

A carnival parade has been called off at short notice in Braunschweig, northern Germany, due to the threat of an Islamist attack, police said.

A "specific threat of an Islamist attack" was identified by state security sources, they said in a statement.

Police urged people planning to attend to stay at home.

The parade - a well-known regional attraction - was cancelled only 90 minutes before it was due to start.

"Many people arriving at the train station were already dressed up and very disappointed - but we didn't want to take any risks," police spokesman Thomas Geese was quoted as saying.

It comes hours after Danish police shot dead a man they believe was behind two deadly attacks earlier in Copenhagen.

Not sure about "good" but certainly an insidiously clever tactic. Impossible to combat now that the horse has bolted.

Police Release Details on Suspected Gunman in Copenhagen Attacks

Danish police shot and killed a man early Sunday suspected in the slayings of two people in Copenhagen since Saturday, in what the country's prime minister calls a "cynical act of terror against Denmark."

Authorities said the Denmark-born 22-year-old alleged gunman was fatally shot after he opened fire on officers near a train station.

His previous criminal record included violence and weapons offenses, according to police.

Officials said no evidence suggests other gunmen were involved in the shootings, one at a free-speech event and the other outside a Copenhagen synagogue.

Police investigator Joegen Skov said Sunday, "We are still faced with a huge investigation. We need to make sure that our theory is in fact correct.

"A number of things indicate that we did get the right man, but we still have to investigate whether he acted alone, but at the moment there is nothing to suggest that any other perpetrators were involved," Skov said.

The real shit will start flying when the rapidly growing number of Europeans being pushed to the right by the apologist left reaches a critical mass, and they start taking their security and future into their own hands.

Could become bad times for Europe.

You can almost smell it coming. The silent majority simmering away while the elitist/leftist Euro fanatics give their countries away. It may take a while yet, but if enough of these events take place across Europe, the backlash could become very nasty indeed.

When you invite incompatible and hostile cultures into the middle of your own in large numbers......????.

Just read where 21 Egyptian Xtians were beheaded by Islamists in Libya.......just for being Xtians apparently. . That should raise everybody's confidence...
