Saudi royal family intervenes over preacher

Saudi royal family intervenes over preacher released despite raping and killing daughter

Royal family reportedly 'stung' by the outrage over the case

The Saudi royal family has intervened to block the release of a ‘celebrity’ preacher accused of raping, torturing and killing his five-year-old daughter.

Fayhan al-Ghamdi was set to be released after agreeing to pay “blood money” to the mother of his daughter Lama, who suffered multiple injuries including a crushed skull, broken back, broken ribs, a broken left arm and extensive bruising and burns. Social workers say she had also been repeatedly raped and burnt.

Al-Ghamdi, who regularly appears on Saudi television, admitted using a cane and cables to inflict the injuries after doubting his five-year-old daughter’s virginity and taking her to a doctor, according to the campaign group Women to Drive.

The case caused a scandal in Saudi Arabia, with public calls for the cleric to be put to death.

Despite the country’s notoriously strict legal system however, activists say the law protects fathers from being executed for murdering their children

Rather than getting the death penalty or receiving a long prison sentence for the crime, Al-Ghamdi served only a few months in jail before a judge ruled the prosecution could only seek ‘blood money’.

Albawaba News reported the judge as saying: “Blood money and the time the defendant had served in prison since Lama's death suffices as punishment.”

Today, however, the Saudi Justice Ministry issued a statement saying the cleric remained in prison and the case was continuing.

The Times reported sources in the Saudi capital Riyadh as saying the royal family had been “stung” by the outrage over the case, with senior members intervening to ensure a stricter punishment is given.

One source told the newspaper, “The royal court is now looking at the case. He [Al-Ghamdi] will stay in prison for a long time.”

The £31,000 blood money Al-Ghamdi agreed to pay is considered compensation under Islamic law, although it is only half the amount that would have been paid had Lama been a boy.

Formal objections to the ruling were initially raised by three Saudi activists, and the twitter hashtag #AnaLama (which translates as I Am Lama) was set up.

In response to the public outrage over the case, Saudi authorities set up a 24-hour hotline to take calls about child abuse.

    A five year old daughter.

Let's only hope that the Saudi courts will do the right thing by removing the cleric from Saudi society head first.

I hope the 600 are spaced out in batches of 10 , and as soon as the wounds heal he has his next 10 to be administered by the father of a rape victim.

Possibly the wife's brother is the next owner/authority figure in that case.

He may be the first to cast the first stone.

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that in the sandpit. Over the years there have been plenty of fathers of rape victims happy to drop the case in return for a sack of cash.

And it doesn't matter if it's a son or a daughter.

And generally they will not pursue a criminal case if "blood money" has been paid and the victims family have forgiven the perpetrator, even in the case of murder.

    Tribal justice for you.

Saudi Men Accused of Gang Raping a 3-Year-Old (Yes, a 3-Year-Old)

    Oct. 30, 2013 1:41pm Sharona Schwartz

Some crimes are so horrific they defy comprehension. Here is one such case being reported by Persian Gulf media.

The Arabic language daily Okaz published this photo with its story about the reported gang rape of the 3-year-old girl.
A 3-year-old girl in Saudi Arabia was reportedly raped by a group of men. After taking turns violating the toddler, the men dumped her near a hospital where she was classified in serious condition, the website Emirates 24/7 reported.

Though the attack reportedly occurred last month, police revealed the incident only this past Monday, saying they had arrested three suspects along with two women in connection with the attack.

Doctors at a hospital in Jeddah say the girl is still in a coma and fighting for her life, Gulf News reported.

“She has been raped violently by some men. She was found crying of excruciating pain as her body was full of bruises and her sensitive parts were ruptured,” hospital manager Mohammed Ali told the Saudi Arabia oulet Okaz, as reported by the English-language Emirates 24/7.

Ali said the girl’s clothes were torn and she was bleeding from the vagina.

An eyewitness, Abdullah Mohammad Nasser, was quoted by Gulf News saying he saw a car dump the girl at the front gate and then speed away

“These are human wolves and worse than animals. They have violated all human and religious values with this heinous crime,” the hospital manager said. “We hope she will respond to treatment and recover although doctors believe she will suffer from a trauma for the rest of her life.”

Earlier this month, a Saudi preacher convicted of torturing his 5-year-old daughter with a cane and cables and beating her to death in 2011 was sentenced to eight years in prison and 600 lashes after paying blood MONEY to the family of the girl’s mother. The killing was reportedly motivated by the father’s suspicions about the girl’s virginity.

Earlier this year, another Saudi cleric called on parents to dress their female babies in a burka, to reduce their chance of being molested.

On the bright side there's a good chance they'll get their heads chopped off. I doubt they were wealthy.

But they do have this habit of letting kids wander in and out, they treat them like pets.

They are so sex starved that they end up bumming each other all over the place.

But then they indignantly claim that they aren't gay.
