Toddler Kaleb Ahles, 2, fatally shoots himself

A TODDLER in Florida is dead after finding his father’s .380-calibre handgun in the family’s car and shooting himself, officials say.

Kaleb Ahles, 2, was in the car on Wednesday afternoon while his parents Kevin Ahles and Christina Nigro, both 23, loaded boxes as they prepared to move, according to Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies.
Somehow, the boy opened the glove compartment, where his father had stored the gun.
The child lifted the gun, turned it so that it faced his chest and squeezed the trigger, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

His parents told deputies they heard a loud pop and ran to the car. The mother performed CPR, and the boy was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“He probably barely got the trigger pulled,” said Sheriff Bob Gualtieri. He described the gun as a lightweight weapon usually carried in a pocket or on a hip.
Sheriff Gualtieri called the incident a “tragic situation.”
The sheriff said the parents won’t face criminal charges — no one could punish them more than they’ll punish themselves, he said.
The child’s grandfather, a retired Tampa police detective who is also named Kevin Ahles, stood near the police tape outside the house Wednesday evening.
“A great little kid was killed today,” he said. “That’s all there is to say.”

Or driven over himself in an automobile.

(Gun nuts always want to compare accidental gun deaths with car deaths.)

    Terrible, poor little kid...

Fukwits in Thailand leaving a baby in the ute, and fukwits elsewhere leaving loaded guns around babies. People are stupid and that stupidity is lethal.

I am completely in agreement with DK criminal negligence should be brought against anyone who leaves a loaded gun with one in the breech and no safety in the proximity of young kids should be charged, but the NRA will be saying ''Its a tragic accident" Wankers.

Guns don't kill. Toddlers do. Should have used Bullet Block Plus.

    RIP little fella.

Everyone accept that a two year old could open a glove compartment, pick up a gun, face it towards himself and pull the trigger?

Stupid is as stupid does. And they don't get much more stupid than Americans.

Quite why anyone with a functioning brain would need a loaded gun in their vehicle whilst moving house is a mystery.

" Hey, honey, what have you done with the loaded .38? It's OK dear, I put in the glove compartment of the car just in case them pesky Injuns, Nigras, Spics, Somalis, Terrrrrists or aliens attack us while we're clearing out the garage".

Einstein's theory is proved daily in the US.

Anyway, an accident is an unforeseen event. Given the circumstances, a loaded gun, Americans, in America, there was nothing unforeseen about this shooting.

Having been with a 2 yr-old for the last few weeks I would say it is more than possible and very likely. The little monster I was with can pick up the car keys, get into the car, start it up and go straight for the horn. Honk! Honk! I need attention!

You can't keep your eyes off them for a minute without some sort of mischief making.

Oh yes it's the stupid Americans again. But when a fukwit brit father in Phuket left the gate to the swimming pool open for his toddler to drown it was all sobs for the poor grieving parents. Hypocrites. Criminal negligence in both instances.

Would he also be able to push a trigger on a gun ?
If the gun was facing towards him, he would have had to push the trigger, rather than pull it .
I would imagine that it would take quite a lot of strength to push a trigger , would a two year old have the strength to do that ?

Well what's your theory then? Cops are wrong? Parents did it? Muslims? Jews? Aliens?

The kid was alone in the car with the gun. My guess would be that he did it.

But then I'm not as wise as you, Fluke?

You've now questioned twice what is obvious to everyone else. What's the real answer? We await enlightenment, oh all-seeing Fluke.

Don't be a pedantic ass! The trigger will have been squeezed rather than pushed or pulled. The strength of a young childs' grip is quite remarkable, as a few recent US kids have shown.

He may well have did it .
    I have no idea ,
I neither stated that he did do it or he didnt do it .
    Merely questioned .
I do recall a case last year in the USA where a man accidentally left a toddler in a hot car all day long and the toddler died .
It turned out that this was done on purpose and the man got a life jail sentence .
    So, just questioning the situation

Surely in a case involving someone dying from a bullet from a gun that they supposedly fired themselves, asking whether they had the ability to pull the trigger is a legitimate question .
What measure of strength is needed to pull a trigger and did that Child have the strength is a legitimate question
