Miami Cops use black men pics for target practice

US police are facing scrutiny after it was revealed that they have been using images of black men for target practice.

NBC reports that the practice was discovered after police snipers spent the day shooting at the Medley Police Firearms Training Centre.
After they were finished Florida’s National Guard came in. That is when Sergeant Valarie Deant, a national guardsman, noticed a mugshot of her brother, Woody Deant, with bullet holes in his head.
“I was like, why is my brother being used for target practice?,” Deant told NBC Miami.
The mugshot was taken 15 years ago. Deant spent four years in prison for an illegal drag race incident that claimed the life of two people. He says he is now a career man with a family.

North Miami Police Chief J. Scott Dennis defended the practice saying his department was not the only one that used images of real people.
He said the images are important for facial recognition training and that the department also uses images of white people.
“Our policies were not violated. There is no discipline that’s forthcoming from the individuals regarding this,” Chief Dennis said.
Other law enforcement agencies said they only use computer generated images by commercial vendors and not those of real people.
This can create a very dangerous situation and it has been ingrained in your subconscious. What does that mean when someone comes across Woody or another person on the street,” said the Deant’s attorney Andell Brown.

Long time traditional American police policies and bred strategy.

All black folk are suspected, regardless.

_______________ while black. [fill in the blank]

Since the majority of crime is performed by black males it's only logical the cops focus on their #1 target (no pun intended) group.

What has escaped you, BM, is that having pictures of real people isn't necessary

But targets are black on a white back ground normally, even in Africa.

OR did you bother to read the article, or just jumped to a conclusion.
Cops have photo's of white people, women and Bin Laden, on this shoot the targets were black, the 2 snipers, one Hispanic the other black.
A non story in the first place.

National Guardswoman at Firing Range Discovers Police Used Brother’s Mug Shot as Target

"A National Guard soldier at a firing range in South Florida discovered that police who had just been at the range were using a 15-year-old mug shot of her brother for target practice. Valerie Deant, who is black, was at the range for weapons qualification training with other members of the Guard when she found the bullet-ridden pictures of her brother and other black men, NBC Miami reports."

Miami police firing range mug shots: Target depicted Guard member's brother.

That would be a tad bit disconcerting to say the least.

Looking at the OP photo they actually appear to be six 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" mugshots prints on white background for BB-gun practice. Then held to a brown background so you can notice the hits.

This does not appear to be live range torso-target practice...just someone fookin' around...unfortunately , racist fookin' around.
North Miami Police Chief may have been talking out of his ---. (IMO)

Right : The USA seems to have a problem executing its prisoners , why not use these people for target practice ?
Could even give them a chance to run and dodge the bullets .

What folk continually fail to understand is that America is a developing country populated by immigrants who were by definition at the bottom of the heap in their own countries and thus not the brightest or sharpest.
They simply can't help themselves, they really don't know any better.

Ghastly place with quite dreadful people. And they're all armed. Who on earth would wish to live there unless they were either criminals, desperate or a little bit stupid. Gosh, sounds a bit like Thailand.

you must be thinking of australia.

american immigrants were spirited adventurers looking for opportunity and willing to take a chance, most of them escaping war, persecution, famine and the grinding poverty of their homeland.

You do realise you are contradicting yourself . . . and they weren't 'american immigrants'

Ok. If they were 'american immigrants' they would have been immigrants from 'america' going somewhere else.

    They were either:
spirited adventurers looking for opportunity and willing to take a chance
    or they were:
escaping war, persecution, famine and the grinding poverty of their homeland
Hardly the same kettle of fish, but thanks for the insult.
