Thread: Giant waves pound North Sea platform

EVER thought about a career working on an oil rig? This stomach churning video filmed during a storm may change your mind.
The dramatic footage shows waves throwing an oil rig off balance during the huge storms that swept over the North Sea off the coast of Scotland.

The incredible video was shot off the Borgholm Dolphin installation and was captured by James Eaton, a worker on the nearby Lomond Platform.
The choppy waters can be seen rising almost to the full height of the structure as the rig sways ominously.
Since being posted the clip has been viewed close to 200,000 times.

Those guys deserve the big dollars doing that work.

Just doing the fly in fly out every rotation would send me mad.

i'm just curious as to how those things are tethered.

Different kinds of rigs I think.

Semi-submersibles are like boats or big rafts that can be lowered onto the seabed I think. Maybe that is an un-anchored semi.

Sure, it looked a bit choppy but those waves weren't particularly intimidating. Saw much more exciting stuff carving our way through the Roaring Forties en route to Durban.

Mind you, I never knew Boon Mee was so butch. All that hard helmet talk was quite stimulating. Har, har.
