Saudi Arabia Fast-Tracks Nuclear Power

Last Tuesday, energy officials in Saudi Arabia announced plans to become a major nuclear energy state, assuring the reactors would be used only for peaceful purposes (The Nuclear Wire). They intend to move fast, beginning construction by year’s end.

The Saudi Royal Family hopes that nuclear will provide 15% of the Kingdom’s power (18 GWe) within 20 years, together with a similar 15% (40 GWe) from solar (WNN). They are planning to invest $80 billion to build over a dozen nuclear power plants as fast as possible, intending for the first reactor to come online in only eight years.

Investment in solar for the same energy production will take about $240 billion in investment, although breakthrough technologies in the next decade should cut that cost in half.

DUBAI (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia, which has barred pilgrims from Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea from the haj due to Ebola concerns, will allow Nigerians to attend, an official was reported on Monday as saying, suggesting the smaller outbreak there was less worrying.

Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone have been worst hit by an outbreak of the disease in West Africa, with a combined death toll in those three countries since March of 2,097, as at Sept. 5, the World Health Organization (WHO) says.

A further eight people have died in Nigeria, out of 23 cases, and there has been one confirmed case in Senegal.

There are no approved Ebola vaccines or treatments.

Kind of along the same lines as swimming in the river Ganges.

Stoning Satan has become big business , it is more like a stroll through a shopping mall, these days sadly , it is not as tough as it was in the good old days, when 300 pilgrims died in the crush, to stone SATAN.

I see this as a response to Iranian development of nuclear power. Unlike Iran however, Saudi has no shortage of refining capacity and full access to western refining technology (they both have sizable oil reserves). So no real economic incentive to go nuclear, considering it drills a hole in the desert and extracts it's oil for cents per barrel. Saudi has also been a generous funder of Pakistan's nuclear program.

Interesting, the contrast between the manufactured hysteria over Iran's nuclear program, and the media treatment of this little snippet as a non-event. Who, after all, is the bigger funder of terrorist organisations internationally? Neither country is however breaking international law by developing peaceful nuclear technology- the concern is 'the next step'. A nuclear armed Iran, Israel, Pakistan & Saudi Arabia is certainly not out of the question- I would say that Iran will feel compelled to get nukes if Saudi goes ahead, and vice versa.

This would certainly bring a "peace" to the middle east as it would be soon be inhabitable.

A Saudi man divorced his wife in a fit of rage after she told him that he should close the door of their car. The couple were out on a picnic with their son, and upon their

When, the husband asked her to close the door of the car, she told him that he was nearer to the vehicle and that he should do it.
The husband felt offended by the remark and warned her that she would no longer be welcome into their home if she did not close the car door, local news site Al Marsd

Offended by the warning that she considered a challenge to her dignity and a blatant abuse of her character, she entered the house and called her brother to take her to
the family home. Attempts by relatives to reconcile the couple and arguments that it was all decided in a fit of anger failed to make the wife change her mind.
“He said he would divorce me for such a trivial thing and this means that he does not appreciate our marriage,” the wife reportedly said.
“He cannot hold our marriage hostage to his fits. He simply does not deserve that I live with him,” she said.

Lots of Saudis out of work because of a government law forcing employers to pay them a minimum wage. For those of you that don't know, Saudi law mandates that a certain percentage of a companys workforce must be Saudi nationals.

Because most of them are stupid, lazy or both, a lot of companies pay Saudis to be on the payroll but to stay at home.

With the implementation of this law, 11,000 companies have folded, mucking up the gravy train for thousands of lazy bastards.

And finally, the probable future king of Saudi Arabia (the crown prince is a youthful 69 years old) says that Islam is being corrupted by "forces of darkness". I'm not sure if that's another way of saying "We gave them all the guns to fight the bloody Shi'a, not depose us!".
