Britain raises terrorism threat level from "Fancy That" to "Oh Dear!"

It's the highest level seen since "Good Lord!" when the Argies piped up.

Britain raised its terror threat level to “severe” on Friday, meaning that officials consider an attack on the country is “highly likely” -- an assessment based on the growing influence of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

At a news conference in London, British Prime Minister David Cameron said the Islamic State poses a “greater and deeper threat to our security than we have known before.”

However, though the country lifted its threat level one notch from “substantial” to “severe,” the second-highest category, Home Secretary Theresa May stressed that “there is no intelligence to suggest that an attack is imminent.”

It was the first time in three years that Britain has been at such a heightened security level.

The move comes as international attention has focused on the Islamic State, an Al Qaeda splinter group, after it beheaded American journalist James Foley. In an online video of the killing, the executioner speaks with a British accent.

Cameron said Britons were “shocked and sickened” by idea that Foley may have been killed by someone who is British.

“It was clear evidence ... that this is not some foreign conflict thousands of miles from home that we can hope to ignore,” the prime minister said. “The ambition to create an extremist caliphate in the heart of Iraq and Syria is a threat to our own security here in the U.K.”

May, similarly, said the increase in threat level "is related to developments in Syria and Iraq, where terrorist groups are planning attacks against the West. Some of those plots are likely to involve foreign fighters who have traveled there from the U.K. and Europe to take part in the conflict.”

It’s estimated that approximately 500 Britons have traveled to fight in the region. About 200 are believed to have already returned home, and concern is growing in Britain about a potential influx of fighters flowing back into the country.

To combat that threat, Cameron announced plans for legislation that will allow Britain to strip suspected terrorists of their passports. He promised more details would be presented to Parliament on Monday.

“We need to do more to stop people traveling, to stop those who do go from returning, and to deal decisively with those who are already here,” the prime minister said.

And yet, still don't recognize who/what the real terror might be.

    A hint...
    It's not foreign.

Ooooh quick everyone, don't pay attention to something serious that is happening, but instead obsess on the mainstream media about some random FEAR about something we are not allowed to know about.

Oooooh I hope they get it sorted our before they raise the TERROR THREAT LEVEL beyond "Good Lord" all the way up to "Heavens to Betsy" level, or, pray to the gods not, to "If you don't toe the line we're all going to write a stiff letter to The Times" level.

In the meanwhile, they're out and about searching for more make-believe boogieman to fear.
Expanding on the industry of "terrorism", instigating and propagating where/when they can.

George Galloway MP was the first victim.
When our MP's are violently attacked in broad daylight, in front of Police.
There is no safety for us the public then, from these terrorists.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — The king of Saudi Arabia has warned that extremists could attack Europe and the U.S..
A day after the UK statement.

To the usual gang of naysayers and 5th columnists, the government has a duty to the public to provide a warning if there is evidence of a possible terrorist attack. This group would be the first to attack the government if no warning was given.

But they don't have any evidence.

The UK's terror threat level has been raised from "substantial" to "severe" in response to conflicts in Iraq and Syria, Home Secretary Theresa May says.
The new alert level rates the risk of an attack on the UK "highly likely", although Mrs May said there was no evidence to suggest one was "imminent".

The JTAC have just considered the current situation and changed the word used for the probability. They have probably been listening to too many politicians.

No. Initially Qatar and Turkey. Due to EU pressure, it's just Qatar now. Interesting enough, Qatar is the major financial funder of Hamas.
ISIS is opposed to the House of Saud and wants them all dead.
It's actually quite something to see ISIS as an enemy of both Iran and Saudi Arabia and the west.
So far, ISIS has only taken on weak states; Iraq, Lebanon and Syria. it would be quite something if ISIS expands its activities in Lebanon or takes a swing at the UAE as it has threatened. The beheading of the captured Lebanese soldier subsequent to a raid on a Lebanese border base does not bode well.
The UAE is on their target list ever since the UAE airforce used Egyptian airbases to attack rebels in Libya.

It sounds a bit like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Talk it up, say ISIS are a threat to the UK, make them an enemy, threaten the the use of military action against them, then wait for a reaction. Cameron - the prophet of doom.

The language is very strong - "a battle against a poisonous ideology" - and the warning is stark - "a terrorist state on the shores of the Mediterranean" - as the prime minister seeks to make the case for Britain returning to Iraq.
After a week that has seen UK military aircraft drop humanitarian aid, David Cameron makes it clear that alone is not enough to defeat IS. He talks repeatedly about Britain using its "military prowess" and military action, alongside diplomacy, to defeat the group.
The talk is tough, but Downing Street insists this is not an escalation. The Ministry of Defence has been reminding people that the UK has played no role in supporting the latest round of US air strikes on IS targets across northern Iraq.

THE terrorist threat level across the UK has been raised from ‘spacehopper’ to ‘underpants’.

    Whatever you do, don’t panic
Members of key national security committees, including ‘Cobra’, ‘Jaws’ and ‘Thundercats’, now believe the threat to be so hot that Britain could be consumed in a ball of fiery gas by the end of the week.

‘Underpants’ means everyone in the UK must carry a whistle and be prepared to tell the police what they dreamt about last night, no matter how weird or perverted.

A Home Office spokesman said: “You should go about your daily lives as if nothing is wrong while at the same time being constantly vigilant and terrified.

“If you don’t like the look of someone, or you overhear comments that you disagree with, you should immediately point at your enemy and blow your whistle until police marksmen arrive.”

THE DAILY MASH GUIDE TO UK THREAT LEVELS

    ‘MANGO’
All is well. Unlock your doors and lend your car to a neighbour. Sing.

    ‘HEDGEHOG’
Unsettling. What was that noise? Where were you born? Share my values at once young man.

    ‘SPACEHOPPER’
Terribly frightening. Death has your business card. Trust no-one and carry a bucket at all times.

    ‘UNDERPANTS’
Incredibly dangerous. You and everyone you know is now a terrorist. Go home and watch Grey’s Anatomy.
