Missing 3 year old. Body found and mother detained

Can't believe this one has been missed...

The mother of missing three-year-old Mikaeel Kular is understood to have been detained by police following the discovery of a child’s body.
Officers searching for the boy found the body at a location in Fife, shortly before midnight on Saturday. He had been missing from his home in Edinburgh, 30 miles away on the other side of the Firth of Forth, since Wednesday.

The person detained is reportedly Mikaeel’s mother, named locally as Rosdeep Kular, 33, though police have not confirmed this.

Assistant Chief Constable Malcolm Graham said police “strongly believe” the body to be that of Mikaeel and that his family had been informed of the discovery.

Mr Graham told a press conference: “The investigation into the disappearance of Mikaeel Kular has been wide ranging and fast moving

I cant imagine why a parent should kill her own child, but even in my own country I saw a couple of days ago where a father had shot his own two children before shooting him self, I cant find the link right now but it will be on stuff.co.NZ

They reported it here 3 days ago, PP. Had police and community out combing the area for days. The mother said she put the little boy to bed at 9pm and then realised he was missing at 7:15am. Even then, I thought her story was a bit off. I mean, what sort of mother doesn't check on her sleeping children before she goes to bed herself?
Still not established exactly what happened, the fact that they found the body and have arrested her only broke overnight/early morning here.

She'll plead depression and get counselling, do some token time in a sicko institution then shack up with whoever gives her enough sympathy, have a couple more kids and we'll finance the rest of her happy life.

Bit cynical, or Britain on its way to the bottom?

That's assuming she's guilty, of course.

Awful news. I'd like to know when the poor lad was last seen by anyone other than the direct family, considering he hadn't been to pre-school since before christmas.
He could have been killed nearly a month ago.
Pure speculation though, as NR says, the facts haven't been disclosed yet.
    RIP little fella.

When the child first went missing

Find my little boy': Missing lad of three's distraught mum pleads for his return

A major search operation is underway after Rosdeep Kular, 33, woke to discover her three-year-old son had disappeared from their home

A distraught mother whose toddler vanished from his bed in the dead of night pleaded yesterday: Find my little boy.

Beautician Rosdeep Kular, 33, went to three-year-old Mikaeel’s bedroom at 7.15am – only to find him gone.

Hundreds of police and volunteers were last night scouring the Forth shoreline and houses near Rosdeep’s home in Drylaw, Edinburgh, as temperatures plunged to 4C.

A man who lived at the same address as Rosdeep’s first husband was detained by police and his house searched by forensic officers. Police denied any link to Mikaeel’s disappearance.

As locals were asked to check gardens, sheds and wheelie bins, Superintendent Liz McAinsh said: “It’s getting dark, it’s getting colder, please help us.

    “Mikaeel’s mother is distraught.

“She just wants our help and the public’s help in finding her little boy.”

Mikaeel lives with his twin sister Ashika, and Rosdeep’s three children from a previous marriage – Tarun, nine, David, seven and five-year-old Renuka.

He normally shares the same bedroom as Ashika but was sleeping alone on the night he vanished. His jacket and shoes are also missing.

Frank Arthur, 72, who lives in the flat above, said: “I’ve seen the little lad and his sister playing around in the stairwell. They don’t seem to go out a lot.

“I don’t think the boy could have got out by himself. It’s quite a heavy door.

“You push a button and then it whistles so you open the door. It’s quite a lot for a three-year-old, to be pulling the door open.”

Mikaeel is 3ft, of Asian appearance with a faded scar on the bridge of his nose and a sore on the left-hand side of his mouth.

When he disappeared he was possibly wearing a beige hooded jacket, blue jogging bottoms, brown Clarks shoes and nightwear.

He may also have been wearing a grey pyjama top with an embroidered turquoise dinosaur on the chest and black gloves with multi-coloured fingers.

Rosdeep married Nigerian Omotoso Adekunle Adekoya, 35, in Glenrothes in 2004 and had Tarun, David
    and Renuka.

But after a bitter split, she moved out with the children. She found happiness with a new man and the couple were over the moon when she gave birth to Mikaeel and Ashika on May 7 2010.

Taxi driver Adekoya, 35, lives at Waterfront Gait in Edinburgh – a five-minute walk from the family’s flat.

Just before midday yesterday, 20 officers swooped on the address and bundled a man of African appearance into a van.

Neighbour Donald Cockburn, 53, said: “I came home at 11.45am and a police car pulled in front of me with its lights on. There was a van following and within minutes the area was swarming with police and you couldn’t get in to the road.

“They spoke to a young black man outside, and then they led him away. He wasn’t in handcuffs and he wasn’t being aggressive but they took him away holding his wrists.

“Police officers in hi-vis jackets went straight in to the property.

“It was very unusual. There must have been 20-25 uniformed and plain-clothes police. They were very quick to act.

“I just hope they find the young lad soon.”

Police insisted the operation was not connected with the hunt for Mikaeel.

Supt McAinsh said: “There have been no arrests. There have been no formal detentions, but several people are assisting us with our inquiries.”

But last night, at least 12 forensic officers were searching the address.

A former neighbour of Mikaeel said there had once been a “problem” with Adekoya visiting the children.

Patricia Kilpatrick, 72, said: “She wasn’t with her husband any more.

“I remember there being a problem one day with her husband who had come to take the kids on a Sunday but he couldn’t get them from inside the house.

“He used to come and take them away for the day, I think to his house, but not all of them, just his kids.

“He had come on the Sunday to pick them up but I think he realised that they were alone in the house and soon after that the police arrived to sort out everything.

“He was a big man and very frank in his demeanour whenever I saw him. I think he was a taxi driver as he would always arrive with a taxi and take them away in it.”

Rosdeep’s sister Pandeep, 37, was unavailable for comment last night.

Asked whether there were any custody issues with the family, Supt McAinsh said: “Obviously we are following all lines of inquiry, there are no concerns that we have at the moment.

“We are following all lines of inquiry with all partner agencies and with the family and the family are being very helpful at the moment.”

Efforts were made to speak to Mikaeel’s father, who is understood to be of Pakistani origin.

Supt Liz Ainsh said: “We’ve spoken to all key members of the family. They are assisting us with our inquiries.

“I would stress at the moment we have no indication at all of any criminality. It remains a missing person inquiry.”

Mikaeel’s grandmother, retired doctor Harjinder Kular, joined the rest of the family in Edinburgh as the search continued.

The family’s black Jaguar was parked outside and they left the property in a hurry at about lunchtime.

Harjinder’s neighbour April Mullen met Mikaeel and his siblings many times when they came to her garden to see her fish pond. She said he was “quiet and sweet- natured, just like his brothers and sisters”.

April added: “I think I’m like everyone in the country who is praying for a happy outcome. I hope he is returned to his family as soon as possible.”

Last night, police confirmed they had been in contact with airports across the UK. They said that this was “routine in any missing persons inquiry”.

Police could not confirm whether Mikaeel has a passport or is listed on his parents’ documents, or whether he has ever been out of the country.

The mother of three-year-old Mikaeel Kular has been arrested in connection with his death.
Rosdeep Kular, 33, is due to appear in court on Monday.
The boy's body was discovered in woodland near a house in Kirkcaldy, Fife, early on Saturday, following a major search.
The body was removed from the scene at around 3pm on Saturday afternoon.
Police Scotland Assistant Chief Constable Malcolm Graham said: "During the course of today, the investigation into the disappearance of Mikaeel Kular has continued at pace.
"Following formal identification, I can now confirm that a 33-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with Mikaeel's death.
"The woman is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday."
A memorial service is also taking place on Saturday night at Edinburgh's St Andrew's Muirhouse Parish Church.
Candles were given out at the door before the service, which was open only to the local community.
The family lived there for a time before moving to Edinburgh and neighbours remember Mikaeel and his twin sister playing on the steps.
Mikaeel was reported missing from his home in the Scottish capital on Thursday morning.
Hundreds of police officers from across the UK joined the search and lines of volunteers swept the local area, searching for clues about his disappearance.
Police were told that Mikaeel had not been seen since his mother put him to bed on Wednesday night.
On Friday evening ACC Graham revealed the boy had not attended nursery since before Christmas and said there were "grave concerns" for his safety.
Police Scotland are also investigating an offensive Twitter comment relating to the case, which originated in the Greater Manchester area and was reported by an Edinburgh resident.

It seems she will appear in Court tomorrow, Monday morning.

Edinburgh has had a bad first few weeks of January. A bomb scare at the Airport, a beached whale on the beach at Portobello and (obviously) the worst the death of this poor child.

CSI Teakdoor here - I knew last wednesday, when the little fella hadn't been to nursery school for a month and he couldn't have reached both the door and the electric release of the flat he lived in to get out.
I told the police it was NOt professor plum in the library.

I also thought about the doors. I know that the main door at my mum's flat in Edinburgh is very heavy and the button to push is quite high up on the wall. No way could a small child push the buzzer and open the door.

    Very sad story.

Some animals kill their young all the time. I'm sure glad we're not animals.

Laugh if you will but to me the Freudian model of ego, super ego and id make humans easy to understand; we have animal tendencies that need to be kept in check by a mass of cultural teachings. Some people have weaknesses, or the concepts of right and wrong never stuck. I mean people who commit such crimes, any number of crimes, will never understand how they've done something wrong.

The British judicial system is overwhelmed and has been costing taxpayers massive numbers for years by.....non British ie, 'honour' killings and inter rivalry feuds (nothing to do with Britain) and then they go to court with a translator Ł30 per hour).
Back to the OP, she wasted how much time resource of Police, Coastgard and other EM. services not to mention the emotional upset of her local community.
Oh well, 3 yrs. probation should be the norm.

Mother jailed for 11 years for killing Mikaeel Kular

Rosdeep Adekoya was originally charged with murdering son Mikaeel Kular
    • The mother of three-year-old Mikaeel Kular has been jailed for 11 years after she admitted killing her son and hiding his body in a suitcase.

Mikaeel died two days after being beaten by Rosdeep Adekoya, 34, at the family's flat in Edinburgh in January.

She put his body in a suitcase before dumping it behind her sister's house 20 miles away in Kirkcaldy, Fife.

Adekoya originally told police that Mikaeel had disappeared from her home, leading to a major two-day search.

She had been charged with murder, but admitted the reduced charge of culpable homicide.

    'Out of character'

Defence lawyer Brian McConnachie said while the assault was "undoubtedly serious" it was completely out of character.

He told the High Court in Edinburgh: "It took place over a short period of time and there is nothing to suggest that prior to that weekend there were any similar incidents."

Mr McConnachie added: "There is no sentence your lordship can impose which will be deemed sufficient by what appears to be an ill-informed mob, no doubt at this moment waiting to express their outrage and indignation."

Adekoya, who was wearing glasses, a black cardigan and burgundy jeans, cried and wiped away tears throughout her court appearance.

She had admitted wrapping Mikaeel's body in a duvet cover, putting it in a suitcase and driving to Dunvegan Avenue in Kirkcaldy, Fife, where she hid the case under a bush in woods behind a house.

Adekoya, who had a history of depression and attempted suicide in 2001, had called 999 to report her son missing to police.

She told officers he got out of bed and climbed on a stool to unlock the front door of his home.

Mikaeel died on the night of Tuesday 14 January from injuries inflicted the previous Sunday.

The final cause of death was found to be "blunt force abdominal trauma".

Mikaeel had more than 40 separate injuries to his body, including bruises to his back, chin and cheek, trauma to the brain, haemorrhage in the spinal cord and injuries to his arms.

Adekoya pleaded guilty to repeatedly punching her son and causing his body to hit against a hard object or inflicting blunt injuries on his head and body between 12 and 15 January at their home in Ferry Gait Crescent in the Drylaw area of the city.

11 years for killing your own child is disgraceful.

As for the woman in the op, yes there's probably nothing on this planet worse than what she did, she will suffer if she;s human and comes around, which I doubt.
