Saudi woman to be lashed 50 times for calling morality police liars

This is how Nagla Wafa looked in March 2-13 after being lashed in Saudi Arabia. Najla Wafa once a businesswomen and a partner with a Saudi princess is serving 3 years prison term and the image shows her after she received her latest 50 lashes batch of the 500 lashes a Saudi court punished her with for a business disagreement with her partner.

A Saudi Arabian judge has upheld a sentence of a month in prison and 50 lashes for a businesswoman convicted of insulting members of the morality police during an argument, the local al-Medina newspaper reported on Sunday.

Incidents of heavy-handed behaviour by the morality police have come under growing criticism on social media from inside the kingdom in recent years, straining relations between Saudi citizens and the official body.

The appeals court in Mecca upheld the sentence, passed by a district court in Jeddah, after the woman was found guilty of “cursing the morality police” and calling them “liars”, the Arabic-language daily reported.

It said the patrol had entered her cafe to check there were no breaches of morality or other laws in the conservative Muslim kingdom, and that some of her employees had then run away because they were breaking immigration rules.

The morality police, formally called the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, was set up in 1926 to monitor public behaviour in Saudi Arabia, which follows the strict Wahhabi school of Sunni Islam.

It patrols streets and other public spaces such as shopping malls enforcing strict dress codes and 30-minute store closures during Islam’s noon, afternoon, sunset and evening prayers.

In 2012 King Abdullah sacked the head of the religious police after a series of controversies including footage of members harassing families in a shopping mall going viral online and fatal crashes after patrols engaged in car chases with suspects.

    Slow to change

The new head, Sheikh Abdulatif Al al-Sheikh, has publicly pushed a more conciliatory approach, talking about training sessions for the morality police to ensure they are politer and do not exceed their legal powers.
However, the force has still been embroiled in a series of controversies over the past two years including more fatal car chases.

Saudi Arabia’s Sharia justice system gives extensive control to judges who can base their verdicts and sentencing on their own interpretation of religious texts rather than using official sentencing guidelines or a system of precedent.

King Abdullah and Justice Minister Mohammed al-Issa have pushed reforms aimed at standardising sentencing, but analysts say implementation has been slow as conservative judges and officials in the Justice Ministry have blocked change.

Positively enlightened, compared to the barbaric torture inflicted on Chelsea Manning and Edward Snowden.

500 in batches of 50, over several weeks, the lashings are not done in one punishment.

The woman in question was sentenced to 50.

The woman pictured is a different woman sentenced to 500 over her 3 year term for a different offence.

They might run the wells dry before, but won't be down and out by any means.

Invested and purchased to the extreme.

If you haven't been paying attention, the Chinese and Arabs own the world and will for some time to come.

The tragedy in this is they actually believe the punishment fits the crime, is right and just, and is endorsed by their God.

I am sure the select few are very, very, very rich! When the wells run dry and the regular people get hungry they will come looking for the king and the royal family. He will be living in Switzerland or Hawaii with all his money. You think these people are fucking crazy now??? Wait until they are broke and Saudi and UAE start looking and acting more like fucking Pakistan!

Then the world will forget about them and they will live like they want.... in the 8th century....

I think France will drop off the Saudi royal family list, after one of the princelings was held up at gun point and robbed of a few hundred thousand euro. Can't find the link, watched it on the BBC earlier this morning, looked like a good heist, burned out Beamers, etc.

    Paris

Saudi prince's motorcade held up at gunpoint in Paris
French detectives investigating whether gunmen wanted money or sensitive diplomatic documents. Police say there were no injuries in the attack on the convoy.

French detectives are investigating whether a group of heavily armed gunmen who attacked a convoy of vehicles carrying a Saudi prince and his entourage in the north of Paris wanted money or important diplomatic documents.

The attackers, who police said were clearly well informed, struck on Sunday evening on the Champs Elysées, after the motorcade of a dozen vehicles had left the luxurious George V hotel and headed to Le Bourget airport, nine miles (15km) north of the French capital.

As the convoy arrived at Porte de la Chapelle, which leads to the péripherique ring road, the attackers – who were travelling in two BMWs without number plates – forced the Saudis' cars to stop, and went straight to one of the vehicles, a Mercedes people carrier.

The robbers, said to number between five and eight, seized the Mercedes and its three occupants – as well as €250,000 and what Le Parisien newspaper described as sensitive documents.

Soon afterwards the robbers released the hostages and abandoned the vehicle, which was found an hour later in Saint-Mesmes, a village in the Ile-de-France region north-east of Paris, along with one of the BMWs. Both vehicles were burnt out.

Some reports suggested the robbers were carrying handguns, others that they were armed with Kalashnikovs, but detectives said no shots were fired and no one in the convoy was hurt. Two €500 notes, documents in Arabic and some medical drugs were said to have been found near the wreckage.

"... the documents came from the Saudi embassy in Paris. "It was clearly an ambush by a commando group that was well-informed, particularly of the time the vehicles would be passing,"

"....the Saudi embassy has declined to comment."

"We have to establish whether it was the money or documents that were targeted. We also have to hope that the Saudi authorities will cooperate with the investigation."

One detective added:".... We're no longer faced with organised bandits, but something more complicated."

He said the first elements of the inquiry suggested the robbers were "quite expert … and aware of what they would find by attacking this one vehicle [the Mercedes] and not the others".

The George V hotel from which the convoy departed is owned by Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz al Saud, a nephew of King Abdullah. It is not known whether he was in the convoy.

He was listed as among the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in 2008. He is founder and 95% owner of Kingdom Holding Company, which has investments in banking, financial services and hotels, media, aviation and property.

He is also Citigroup's largest individual shareholder and the second largest voting shareholder in News Corporation. Last year he was listed as the 26th richest man in the world by Forbes magazine, with an estimated $26bn fortune.

    • This article was amended on 19 and 20 August 2014 to clarify the position of the Hotel George V and the motorcade.

Speaking of the Saudi Royals, they have cautiously warned the U.S. and Europe, today, that both are in dangerous grounds regarding near future retaliation from the boogieman of the month - ISIS.

GCC Foreign ministers are meeting at this moment to try and get Qatar to stop being friendly with the Muslim Brotherhood.

They're getting it from all angles at the moment.
