Loved him in Mork & Mindy as a kid. He made a lot of decent films, my favourite being the lesser known 'The Fisher King'.

However, I found the man painfully unfunny when interviewed on TV. Anytime he was being 'himself' he just couldn't turn the silly voices, and child like nonsense off. Would have liked to have just heard him chat normally. RIP.

Moog, on reading the reviews it may well be that particular film propelled him to self termination.

Quit while you're ahead applies to so much but I imagine he thought he had another " big " movie in him but simply wasn't getting the scripts.

Very sad indeed. I watched him in Mork and Mindy and followed him through his career. Saw all his movies and grew to respect his huge talent. There will never be another like him.

Another sad note was his battle with depression. He was at the motel where John Belushi ODed. They were very similar and suffered from similar demons, but Robin held them off longer. We will never know what went on in his mind and it just shows the power of depression.

    Now I'm depressed.

    An actor has died.

Better batten down the hatches, man the lifeboats and stock up on the kleenex man size, there is a tsunami of onion fuelled gushing grief heading our way as California luvviedom goes into hyperbolic soundbite tearjerking heartbreak mode.

So he finally joined the Dead Poets Society. Can't recall him in a single bad role, indeed you could just put him on stage with a microphone and no script, and he'd steal the show. What a talent.

Recall he turned up out of the blue at our local radio station in the UK a decade or so ago.

Outrageous, hilarious, 5 minutes of brilliance. So incredibly sharp his listeners were on catch-up. Well I certainly was

In 1986 or 87, whilst travelling around Thailand on my first visit to the country I stayed in a dump of a hotel called the Boston Inn, in Soi Ngam Duplee, this was the Bangkok backpackers area before Khow San Rd. became popular, and whenever the Thai TV industry or film industry needed foreigners as extras or for bit parts, agents would put up notices in the hotel foyer or in the Blue Fox Bar, the wonderfully sleazy hangout round the corner.

I responded to one of these ads and found myself with many others on the set of Good Morning Vietnam, and spent an enjoyable few days filming with them dressed up as soldiers. Most of the extras were from an American international school, and there were four or five of us from Soi Ngam Duplee.

Robin Williams was present most days and between takes freely fraternised with us lowly extras. He was always friendly, down to earth, cheerful and interested in our travel stories.

As an actor though I was not impressed, just not a fan of those over the top screaming loud performances.

That is the downside. And the news telling us that some nobody has 'twatted' something about it.

This is actually what happened in one of his roles. I read about it many years ago, so forget which one....but I still remember the description of how they made it :

There were no words written for him in the script, but at certain places in the main script, the director had written "release Robin here".

his latest offering did not receive hugh applause, bit of a damp squid
    money problems haunting him
+ a life-time of cocaine and alcohol to run with
and never truly able to shake it off with rehabs.
the future must have been bleak indeed
bless im , he had a wonderful talent
yes just give him a mike and he entertained all, off the cuff.
    RIP.

    Career of Robin Williams

Williams became a household name in the 1970s as the alien Mork on the ABC TV show Mork and Mindy.

In 1997, Williams starred in What Dreams May Come with Annabella Sciora and Cuba Gooding Jr, pictured here with his co-stars in Cannes.

Williams collected the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for Good Will Hunting in 1998. He was nominated for Oscars on three other occasions.

In 2002, he appeared on the Michael Parkinson show with actor, writer and comedian Stephen Fry.

One of his last major roles was as President Dwight Eisenhower in The Butler, which was well received on its release in 2013.

Williams had been open about his struggle with alcohol and drugs.

Tributes have been pouring in from fellow comedians, Hollywood, distraught fans and President Barack Obama.

The mork scripts ended up having "Mork goes nuts" as his lines.
Aladdin had no lines and he improved 16 hours of stuff for them to choose from.
The amount of improv stopped the script from being nominated as best adaption as it deviated too far frrom the original.

A great comedian and actor, so sad that he did not realize just how much it hurts his family to basically give up. It does boggle the mind that someone so talented and have the money to seek real help, just gives up. Totally sad to see such talent go this way.
