COLIN MULGREW, who was found guilty of giving patients X-rays they didn’t need, fled to Bangkok after being struck off.

A DISGRACED dentist who made millions giving kids unnecessary treatment on the NHS has died virtually penniless in Thailand, it has emerged.

Colin Mulgrew was struck off 13 years ago after the General Dental Council branded his practices “sausage machines”.

He boasted of raking in £5million a year from his four surgeries, which had patients from Glasgow, Lanarkshire and Ayrshire & Arran health boards.

But he was found guilty of giving patients X-rays they didn’t need, exposing them to high amounts of radiation and failing to record treatments so he could repeat the procedure.

Mulgrew lived in a mansion with a swimming pool on the outskirts of Glasgow but fled to Bangkok after his downfall. He died aged 57 after taking ill at his flat there in January 2009.

Recently published court documents show he died intestate with only a fraction of his fortune left.

He had an NHS pension valued at £22,000 and £26,000 in bank accounts. It is expected that his estate will go to his two children.

Karma is right. If the article is correct he was ill for 5 years.

who made millions giving kids unnecessary treatment on the NHS
He had an NHS pension valued at £22,000
if he was paid millions by the nhs, and for childrens treatment the dentist is paid directly by the nhs as there are no patient charges for under 18's then his nhs pension payments, which are linked directly to earnings, would have been far more than £22,000.

and failing to record treatments so he could repeat the procedure.
failing to record treatment would result in not being able to claim payment. it would be impossible to claim two sets of remuneration for the same procedure carried out twice within certain time limits.

that he was a disgrace to the profession is not in doubt, unlike the journalists who wrote this bilge.

    £26,000 = penniless?

Either the English language has changed a lot recently or the UK economy is in a worse state than I thought.
