Waitress' tip denied; homophobic note left as gratuity

Waitress' tip denied; homophobic note left as gratuity
    November 15, 2013

A waitress in New Jersey who previously served in the Marines received an offensive note from a family who denied her a tip because of her "gay lifestyle." Now, she is speaking out against those very people whose freedom she once defended. (on.aol.com)

    Huff Post Live

A waitress' tip was not only denied; a New Jersey diner wrote a homophobic note on the server-ex-Marine's dinner receipt, Wednesday, in protest of her homosexual lifestyle. Since posting the hurtful note on an LGBT website, Dayna Morales has received an outpouring of support, according to a Nov. 15 Huffington Post report.

The egregious waitress-tip ordeal took place Wednesday at the Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater from the moment Morales greeted the family of four: a woman, man and their two children.

What happened next reads like something from a Punk'd episode. However, this really took place in the 21st century.

When the waitress introduced herself as Dayna, the woman at the table expressed shock and said she thought Morales looked more like a "Dan" (due to her short hair).

Dayna got the drift of the woman's offensive comment, but remained professional until the end. And when the family departed, the waitress went to the table to collect the signed credit card receipt for the $93.55 bill. Instead of a tip, the waitress found a note the women left behind.

It read: "I'm sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle and the way you live your life."

She then took the receipt to her manager, who was terribly moved by what had just happened.
We're a family here. It's the most outlandish thing I've ever heard in my entire life. There's no reason for anything like that to happen," said general manager Byron Lapola in a Today interview.
Later, Morales made a post on the "Have A Gay Day" blog which read:
I'm a server at Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, NJ and THIS is what happened to me today. NEVER in a million years did I think this would happen...I am THOROUGHLY offended mad pissed off and hurt that THIS is what her kids will grow up learning and that I served in the Marines to keep ignorant people like them free."
Despite the waitress' tip -- in the form of a hurtful note -- Morales maintained her cool and continued serving the family. However, her frustrations were clearly felt through the email she wrote to the blog.
This is what Morales would have likely said, had she not taken the high road from the diner's homophobic slur towards her:
I am THOROUGHLY offended mad pissed off and hurt that THIS is what her kids will grow up learning and that I served in the Marines to keep ignorant people like them free. Sorry lady but I don't agree with YOUR lifestyle and the way you're raising your kids but you didn't see me throwing that in your face and giving you shitty service. Keep your damn mouth shut and pray we never cross paths again," the email read to the LGBT blog and was later posted on its Facebook page.
With the waitress' tip denied and the incident posted on social media, thousands of people from around the world spoke out against gay and lesbian sexual discrimination. In fact, a Pay Pal account Morales set up at the behest of readers has already raised thousands of dollars following the flood of support.

The ex-member of the U.S. Marine Corps-turned server of ten years said she plans to donate part of the money to the Wounded Warrior program for combat veterans in need.

Regarding the homophobic woman, perhaps this milestone, albeit a bad one, in her life will allow her to ponder the matter for what it is.

This article is very biased, using terms such as homophobic note, hurtful note, etc...

I don't agree with the actions of the people who did not give a tip, but their words were not particularly homophobic or hurtful...

    These are the words:

"I'm sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle and the way you live your life."

    The article is hyperbole.

^I agree. More hysterical shrieking by the 'in your face' gay community.

It's up to the customers whether they tip or not - even in the US.

That said, if they objected so strongly to being served by a fag, they should have requested another server, rather than accepting the service, then sneaking out leaving a cowardly note.

A lot of Christians are nothing less than the non-violent fanatical Muslims.

I wonder if you think it would be okay to ask to not be served by a black?

The homosexuality disorder comes with alot of baggage , one being the sufferers are stuck at the difficult adolescent stage that they cannot grow out of .
So expect tantrums over nothing . This tom boy lesbian would have loved the attention and her chance though 100% talentless to become a celebrity.

Only part ? perhaps she's spending the rest on getting cured.

    The customer should sue the restaurant - for agravating her medical condition;
people suffering from phobias should be protected by law .

    Fuck tipping too.
    should be outlawed.

^^Stupid question - totally different subject. And, we're not talking about me, we're talking about an American family who, for all you know, may have been black. And, how do you know ^^^ they were Christians? Asian restaurant - maybe they were Buddhists.

Yes, I'd agree with that too.

Quite a bit of hyperbole there too. But, you could be more specific, narrow it down and make it work. Do we have non-violent fanatical Muslims? Do we have 'a lot of' non-violent fanatical Christians, praying 5 times a day, covering their women in black burkahs, taking multiple wives, pushing their religious ideologies over social institutions such as the law and governance? Or, do we have some folks, which I suppose although you have no knowledge or proof you are claiming to be Christians, who have written a polite note on a piece of paper. Quite an effortful hypobolic stretch to turn this article into an anti-Christian rant. In fact, if Muslims were writing polite notes rather than blowing things up (culture, airplanes, people, etc), the world would be a far better place.

Did I ever tell you of the time I was called before the UN Human Rights Commission because I pushed a poof into a swimming pool?

Homosexuality has being unlisted as a disease.

    Homos can get married.

Homos have more than equal rights in getting jobs , social housing etc .

Homos can adopt vulnerable children , in a bizzar PC experiment.

Homos have special protection under the law , the police will respond to an incident involving them faster - as it's considered a hate crime .

50% of the population has been brainwashed into thinking homos are normal.

    Are they happy ?
no , they want a 100% victory like the fascists they are, they will try and stamp out any signs of dissent with thier nazi jackboots .
In their terms they are obliged to ''challenge'' any signs of people not following the PC way .
The sooner a cure is found for homosexuality the better.

It's amazing that you can live in Thailand with so many openly gay people here. You must find it hard to do anything without running into one. The Phils on the other hand is the best place for people who have problems with gays, I mean these people imagining things.

As for Muslims making their women wear Burkas, I'm sure that plenty of Christians would force their women to be more submissive given the chance. The problem is that people won't aren't nuts are in a greater number than the nutter Christians.

The real crime here is a $94 bill for a meal for two adults and two kids in a New Jersey strip mall faux Asian slopchute.

And I'm wrong about asking for a non-fag server - good luck on finding one. It's like trying to find a non-fag airline steward.

Blue have you ever beat up a gay or even worse killed one. This is your dream world, the one you claim that others are trying to take away. Really you approve of abuse of these people? Don't deny it at least you support this including Putin and his warped violent Russians. How could you ever get involved with Asian women? I bet your family was troubled by that. You and the people that hold this hate are the other KKK and you are the dinosaurs of 2013.

just more pointless outrage from the sensitivity squad.

if someone really has issues with being served by a black, then why shouldnt he be allowed to say it.

its best to know where you stand with people, and id rather know someones prejudices upfront than be dealt with by someone who was outwardly smiling yet seething quietly inside feeling they couldnt show their true feeling.

fuck peoples sensitivities, fuck the thought police and fuck political correctness.

Wild speculation is meaningless. It also produces dishonest discourse such as the original article in the OP. Your comments are utterly baseless, they are wild speculation, and do not stand up to the most cursory of examinations.

    Blue is making 2 points:

    1) Homosexuality is a disease and needs a cure. I don't agree with this point.

    2) Political Correctness often does more harm than good. I agree with this point.

The dishonest discourse in the OP is likely to provoke responses in support of the above points, so it's all rather pointless. However, the waitress does seem to have benefited financially to a good degree. &, the writer has published another article in support of their personal agenda...

A very disingenous comparison, here's some better ones .

I wonder if you think it would be okay to ask to not be served by a leper who has bits of gangrenous flesh falling off them ?
Or someone with a heavy cold coughing and sneezing all over the place and snot flying everywhere ?

So what's the difference if somone doesn't want a gay riddeled faggot, that stinks to high heaven of HIV and is oozing AIDs spores everywhere, serving them ?

It's also proven Gays are way more likely to be paedophiles , another reason for a Family with children to want to keep well away from them .

In this informal setting, I find it fine...

    alot - Wiktionary

Tax's lack of capitalization is far more offensive (as is my awful spelling...). But, in an online forum, it's fine too.

Changes in social discourse can be very interesting:

Step 1 - the homosexuality disorder is socially acceptable discourse. People using the term are empowered.
Step 2 - the homosexuality disorder is not socially acceptable discourse. People using the term are disenfranchised.
Step 3 - the homophobic disorder rises and quickly becomes socially acceptable discourse. People using the term are empowered.

Is this the process of reverse discrimination, or part of it?

Obviously, I think this is highly relevant to the OP, and the comments by posters such as Retro. I'd like to thank Professor Turnip for his insights.

Retro has now taken a thread about a whining gay server and added into the mix

    Christians

    Muslims

    Blacks

    White is Right

And a Philippines that hates fags.

All without any of the above having ANYTHING AT ALL to do with the subject.
