Four people have been arrested after a baby was thrown on a fire in the belief it was the antichrist.
The three-day-old baby was taken to a hill and thrown into a bonfire - allegedly with the approval of mum Natalia Guerra, 25.
She has been arrested along with three members of a sect that believed the end of the world was coming.
Police investigator Miguel Ampuero said: "The baby was naked. They strapped tape around her mouth to keep her from screaming.
"Then they placed her on a board. After calling on the spirits they threw her on the bonfire alive."
Authorities in the town of Colliguay, Chile said the 12-member sect was formed in 2005 and led by Ramon Gustavo Castillo Gaete,

"Everyone in this sect was a professional," Mr Ampuero said.
"We have someone who was a veterinarian and who worked as a flight attendant, we have a film-maker, a draftsman.
    "Everyone has a university degree."
Police said Castillo Gaete, 36, remains at large and was last seen travelling to Peru to buy ayahuasca, a hallucinogenic plant he used to control members of the sect

Police searching for Ramon Gustavo Castillo Gaete, Cult leader who led group to burn baby alive
    Fri, Apr 26th, 2013

Police in Chile and Peru are joining forces to find a cult leader accused of leading a group who allegedly burned a 3-day-old baby alive as part of a “doomsday ritual.”

This undated photo released by Chile’s Police Investigative Unit on Thursday, April 25, 2013, shows Ramon Gustavo Castillo Gaete, 36, who authorities said is the leader of a 12-member sect that is accused of burning a baby alive.

Members of sect were arrested on Thursday, but police believe the ring leader, Ramon Gustavo Castillo Gaete, has fled to nearby Peru.

Officials say the 3-day-old baby was thrown onto a bonfire in November because the leader of the sect believed that the child was the antichrist and claim their leader “was God.”

The arrested four other members of the sect included the baby’s mother, 25-year-old Natalia Guerra.

In her written court statement, she stated that all sect members knew that her child “would be murdered” and that they had to obey the leader because he “was God.”

Castillo Gaete, who was known as “Antares from the Light”, considered himself a god and believed the world was about to end on December 21 2012, authorities say.

“`The baby was naked. They strapped tape around her mouth to keep her from screaming. Then they strapped her to a board. After summoning the spirits, they threw her on the bonfire alive,” the investigator said.

The fire had been previously prepared in a two-meter deep hole in the ground.

Members apparently consumed ayahuasca, a potent hallucinogenic plant used for centuries by South American indigenous peoples, during their rituals.

Investigators say Mr Castillo Gaete had sexual relations with all the women in the sect.
